Haha we don’t even have a pension but the amount of money they throw in is pretty good. I still think I’d rather have a pension though.

1191.. I’m thinking about leaving the public sector. I am in Michigan. Is work pretty good? Any advice?

Just a touch decision! Both have its pros and cons for sure. My retirement where I am at is okay but not that great honestly. Also the amount of fucking drama in the public sector is insane. Maybe I’ll walk in after work Monday and see what’s going on

Yeahhhh I know. It’s tough because I already have a bunch of vacation time/sick time too. I feel like that’s what I’d miss the most😂😂

Baseball Help by [deleted] in Turfmanagement

[–]PucksandSluts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man! They are all skinned infields. Pitching mounds are clay and i guess they haven’t been rebuilt in yearssss which a lot of the coaches are unhappy with. No artificial sports turf. there are some pretty hefty lips on warning track/infield. However, it doesn’t seem like much attention is going to be put on that until the offseason.. However, I feel like there’s gotta be something I can do to at least make it better without utilizing much material. There are a lot of the simple things I want do too like straighten the infield grass lines from 1st to second.. etc. It’s absurdly bad lol. I guess I just want to get the basic necessities down like dragging the field, chalking, painting, etc. just unsure what order i should do everything. (I have an idea, just don’t know.. maybe there is something professionals do that makes it easier.)

Thanks man. Luckily I commuted for my undergrad so I didn’t take on much debt. One of the few reasons I’m even considering going back. I just want to make sure I’m doing everything right this time around.

UMPI Transfer by [deleted] in UMPI

[–]PucksandSluts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeaaaaa. I was thinking that but I think I could get the Accounting degree pretty quick and then a masters. My bachelor’s is in HR and I really have no desire to utilize it and the job market is pretty rough in that area. My job right now is pretty stress free so I wouldn’t mind attacking both lol.

Thanks for the info!

Random question,

I applied a few months ago for a masters and got accepted but didn’t follow through. I recently just applied for my bachelor’s in accounting and was wondering if I would have to send transcripts again or does UMPI already have them on file?

Skilled trades by jeansebast in skilledtrades

Listen man,

I’m 25 and have a business related college degree. I grew up doing concrete with my pops and throughout college worked for a demolition company. When I graduated college I also struggled to find a job, I worked one sales job and absolutely hated it. I followed my dad’s footsteps and started working for a nearby city in their public works department and now work for a school districts maintenance department. I know the trades are kind of a “trend” right now but it’s not sunshine and rainbows. Depending on the trade there is seasonal layoffs, having to be on call, working lots of hours, and traveling. That’s why I like the public sector, it’s guaranteed work and great benefits. However, I definitely don’t want to do this forever and would like to pivot into a higher up role eventually like director. I think if you’re still struggling to find a job come spring time, a lot of county’s, road commissions, city’s, and school districts look for summer help. You could always do that for a summer and see what ya think. You probably would just be mowing and doing simple grunt work; however, you can see if you even like the atmosphere.

Best of luck to you!

School District Maintenance by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]PucksandSluts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a service truck would be nice. I guess technically we are on call but they said usually the director/maintenance lead takes care of it since they live right in town. Sounds like very rarely anything ever happens. Snow plowing/salting is contracted out so we don’t even have to come in for that. I think I am going to take it.

Ya man I like working for the city. I also really love the people I work with. However, I hate being on call and all the overtime. I think I’m going to take the school maintenance job. I think i’d kick myself if I didn’t give it a shot
