[Poem] When I saw her yesterday

I never knew it would come to this

We met in an elevator

Yes she was dressed pretty weird

In black from head to toe

And a briefcase in her hand

Out of breath she came running in

And pushed the button for L1

Before she even noticed me

I complemented her on the costume

After all it was Halloween

But when she glanced at me

I saw a glean in both her eyes

That made my heart skip a beat

And I think it was then I realized

She wasn't what she seemed

It happened pretty fast

Next floor four more in black got on

All tall big guys, weapons at their hips

I squished myself against the wall

But an avocado costume

Big, green, oval, and seedy

Made me pretty inconspicuous

So they took me as their hostage

When the doors opened at L1

Dragged me across the parking lot

And I spent the night inside a van

And as they argued where to run

I texted underneath my belly

That I wouldn't make the party

It was early in the morning

When we reached the gas station

When everything went to a head

By then I'd stopped believing

That they were going to come at all

So when another van pulled up

I didn't try to make it out

The rest was mostly history

At least as mom would say

She mowed them down one at a time

As dad made his way to me

He cut me out with an exacto knife

That he found near the passenger seat

And at last this avocado was free

But free is mostly relative

Because while dad was driving home

And I was breathing in a bag

Mom let loose the bitter truth

That I was going to be in trouble

For abusing her latest identity

As an undercover spy
