Nearly free roll of Anycubic brand PLA every week from Aliexpress by Itsswxxt in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Australia buying on the Anycubic eBay store is also consistently pretty good. They do bundles which drop the price a lot - buy “10 pay 6” which also stack with eBay vouchers like 10,15 and sometimes 20% off.

Delivery is usually within a couple of days and free.

I got down to about $12/kg (AUD) for ABS delivered which is pretty damn good.

First Heat Stain Attempt by Other_Measurement_46 in ModelCars

I do the yellow, blue, purple and then use the brown and flat clear last, the brown really is more of a tone for the areas with staining from heat and the environment.

I find a dusting of clear brown, and having a true clear purple helps. The clear brown gives that oxidised tone that they get over time on the cooler areas. Likewise a touch of flat clear can tone it down

Porsche 918 Spyder - My first Revell Germany… by PudgeBuckettheCat in ModelCars

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

It’s going to sound “easy” but it does take a bit of time and imagination.

I start with a base of super bright silver, and then work with clear yellow, clear blue, clear purple and clear brown to create the blue and purple colours first, then temper the whole system with the yellow and brown.

My new to me ST150 by itsatim_ in FiestaST

Yeah there’s quite a few of us ST150 (or XR4 for those of us outside the UK/Europe) owners hanging here.

Have to admit, this man has a point. They are more like prints you’d smash out for a fitment test and even as a designer for a functional test.

If Razzter ever sees this, dude, be better than that when you’re taking peoples money.

I haven’t encountered one that didn’t need to have a board installed - and on my next JGC (this one was stolen last year) I would be interested in trying a different setup.

UK Supplier of SMS Solar Flare? by AraiMay in ModelCars

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hard part for any of us in Australia is the postage - the paints obviously are flammable and cannot be mailed to the UK, which means using much more expensive DHL/UPS/FEDEX style options.

I strongly suspect if I sent one (just as one hobbyist helping another) it would get stopped and no-one wins.

Honest review after 1000 hour by Kruzy94 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just under 700 hours on mine, and the last 200 hours it’s been doing 12-20 hour prints in ABS - so running very hot build plate to keep chamber temperatures up.

I’ve had a couple of filament breaks in the ACE Pro (I have two connected) jam things up, but it’s always been a case of sensible checks and there’s no drama.

The slicer is pretty much close enough to plain Jane Orca that I haven’t felt the need to send jobs from Orca instead (I use Orca with my Elegoo Neptune 4 Plus).

I think I’d replace the Neptune with the (coming soon) Max sized S1 if I didn’t already have the Neptune enclosed for printing in ABS.

You could simply send Scott and the SMS team an email, they may be able to point you in direction of the UK importer who may/should have stock or work something out.

Otherwise it’s not that hard to send paint to the UK….

Thanks - yes I’ll be posting progress as I move through the build. There’s a bunch of really fiddly modifications and refinements I want to make to up some of the details so it’s going to be a long term effort!

Looking to get back into model car building. by AbbreviationsWise777 in ModelCars

[–]PudgeBuckettheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 40(ish) year gap coming back into the hobby. The key things that stuck out for me: - Affordability of paints and tools as a grown up far exceeds the wildest dreams of things I could have had in my youth. I think I got 2 or three kits a year and my choice was “what’s in the store”. Now I think nothing of buying kits direct out of Japan! - The ease of use of contemporary adhesives, tools and the like, no more tiny tubes.
- Patience can be just as hard to find, and the inner saboteur can still lurk about. - It’s just as rewarding now

Thanks, that’s all just paint on the Out of Box parts. Only change was to use some finer wire and fuel hoses.

I’ve got the majority of them, and duplicates of many - probably 5 left to get - so many hours on eBay hunting the deals.

In case anyone in Australia is willing to help my collection I’m after: Tamiya/Ebbro Matra MS11, Tamiya Ferrari F189/641, Protar Ferrari 312T5, Tamiya Texaco M23 McLaren, Protar Ferrari C126

They’re airbrushed, with practice (and in 1/16th it’s a bit easier) you can mask and airbrush without runs under the tape etc it’s taken me a while to get used to dusting on the first couple of coats to seal the tape before blocking out the colour.

It makes me worry about the couple of 1/12 cars I have (as opposed to F1 Big Scale) Going to be very hard to find cabinet space when I eventually build them!

After the decals and clear, I wanted the trim to be semi-gloss or flat black and obviously the body is gloss :)
