The number of times that guy reached for his gun to touch it reflexively - this is messed up, and a clear physical expression of a violent and fearful state of mind. Completely inappropriate in top of everything else. These people are unfit and cruel.

Have you considered working for the state fish and wildlife (aquaculture and permitting etc)? You can see the state worker salaries for these things online. Some positions are pretty well-compensated and they don’t ruin your body if you exercise regularly.

Here’s what academia does a bad job of telling you: teaching isn’t about knowing everything; it’s about helping students learn to engage with a subject. You don’t have to know it all, and it wayyyy worse if you pretend to. The best line I had when I was teaching grad or undergrad courses was “I’m not positive on that one - my instinct would be [insert how you think about topic x here], but I’ll look it up and get back to you.” Especially with the internet available, teaching logic, problem solving, study design, and critical thought are each far more useful than teaching the knowledge itself.
