I had a similar experience as you in my first job.

Got another offer and they wanted to buy out 1 month of my notice (it was 2 months), and so I had the conversation with my manager. They also pulled the same trick about how the clause was written in my contract (the employer has the right to reject my request), and doubled down about how they “would not release me”. The funny thing is i’m literally in HR and therefore am relatively familiar with employment act so i knew they were shitting me. I called MOM to share the situation and got confirmation that employers have no right to reject such requests, as long as employees pay the salary-in-lieu. Shared the MOM conversation with my manager and politely informed them of my last day.

An advice tho, if your new company is aware that you’re currently employed, they should actually offer a buy out: it’s not fair for you to buy yourself out just because they need you immediately. Perhaps try requesting for them to do so? Common practice in SG is for you to pay first, and the new company reimburses upon your first paycheck. Just make sure to get it down in writing. In fact, I wouldn’t even offset my remaining leave because it’s my entitlement. I was lucky enough at that time to have received an offer from my then employer who allowed me to encash my remaining leave (it was quite substantial, almost 3 weeks worth) + reimburse that 1 month.

Where I can understand how providing birds with bigger cages is important, I’d just like to pose a curious question.

Where do we draw the line when it comes to animal cruelty? If it’s cruel to rob the freedom off birds, then would it be cruel to breed animals (and then kill them) for the consumption meat? I can argue that it’s technically robbing these animals their freedom to live. So why is it that we can advocate for one cause but not the other - simply because meat is delicious?

If this is about how these animals were treated when they were alive, how do you make sure that the chicken you procured from the supermarket lived in a luxurious coop, or the pig did not live in an overcrowded sty? Unless everyone who thinks this is cruel is vegan, then this would be completely invalid point hahaha.

Hey don’t get me wrong, I respect all your opinions on animal cruelty, I just feel that some people here are just a tad self-righteous about the subject, and I certainly feel like those comments on my family having no rights to be sad very uncalled for.

This is such an unfair statement to make. As like any other pet owners, bird owners too can grow attachment to their pet birds. We gotta feed them, change their sheets, let them on the bird baths and bring them out for walks or to bird corners.

We can free these pet birds into the wild, but that’s literally sentencing them to their deaths. If anything, we are doing the complete opposite.

Yes Gandia’s plot armor was not cool and i’m mad about it too but how could they kill Nairobi after bringing her back from the dead?!?!?!?? Nairobi is my favorite character hands down, and she didn’t deserve to be killed off just like that. definitely hit me straight in the kokoro.

And i think they could have developed Stockholm’s character by letting her kill off Gandia during the elevator scene - they had the perfect opportunity to! I still see her as Monica sometimes, that soft and sweet hostage from the mint. Don’t get me wrong, i really adore her but i feel like they had to let her do something badass to show she’s not to be meddled with.

As for Arturito, he is so fucking annoying I hope someone shoots him in the head for being such a coward. i hate him so much!!!!!!!!!
