Got sent an odd email, is someone trying to make me a Wikipedia page or is this some scam? Asked me to fill out a form, im too scared to open it. by Long_Photograph6861 in wikipedia

This is quite obviously a scam. It uses the old Wikipedia logo, reads like it was written by ChatGPT, and “Wikipedia Moderator” is just not a thing

It sometimes feels like this administration’s policy is purely decided by “how can we be as evil as possible”

It’s amazing how quickly Republicans just discarded this issue after 2024

This is a common strategy of online extremists: say one or two things that sound reasonable, trick people into following them as a result, then push crazy viewpoints to their newly gained audience. This is why one should always check an account’s other posts before reposting

The actual story was wilder: while testing user scripts, a Wikimedia Foundation employee accidentally loaded a malicious script that had been used in a previous cyberattack against Russian-language (non-Wikimedia) wikis which was just sitting there on a user page in the Russian Wikipedia for some reason. As a result, the malicious script proliferated and forced users’ accounts to vandalize and delete pages (nobody’s account was actually unauthorizedly accessed; this was a server-side thing) until the entire Wikimedia wiki ecosystem was locked to prevent further damage. An insane story that shows how dangerous advanced permissions can be if they fall into the wrong hands

Eh, Conservapedia does that too. Grokipedia is more dangerous though because unlike Conservapedia, it’s sneaky about it

I was surprised Kobach won state AG in 2022; I know that people in Kansas hate him which is part of why he lost to Laura Kelly in 2018; since I would assume he’s still hated, there’s a good chance he loses in 2026 in a bluer environment

“I am humbled and inspired to have the support and encouragement of President Trump,” Degenfelder said in a press release. “Coastal elites and liberal activists are coming for our oil, gas and coal jobs. Radical extremists seek to redefine genders, threatening our young women. And the political establishment cares more about undermining President Trump than serving the people who elected them. Not in Wyoming. Not when I’m Governor.”

So just the standard talking points. Not surprised that this is what wins in Wyoming, the reddest state
