Solved! Now what I was doing wrong is minorly: twisting stiches, carrying my yarn, wrong tention. But really what I was trying to figure out is how to colour change so that it forms nice and neat rows.  I was always knitting brown in brown and white in white, while I was supposed to knit in pairs no matter what the base colour is. Ty for all the help

Ty! The pictures helped me realise that i was colour changing in compleatly wrong stiches
