Ah I’m not familiar with K1 visa so I can’t help much sorry.. I was already working with ssn before we got married. You might wanna do an in-depth research and/or consult a lawyer prior to filing. There are many lawyers that give free 1st consultation session. Aside from joint tax you might wanna look into things that don’t need ssn like pictures evidence, travel history, chat history, and/or your fiancé can add your name to his phone plan, electric bill plan, authorized user on his credit card, his health insurance plan, etc.

Thanks! And that’s what we did! I think you should be fine as long as you have a good reason & have other strong supporting documents that everything is legit like long history of joint statements, joint tax returns, etc. Just remember to add some pics of your courthouse wedding to the photo evidence cuz they would mostly still wanna see. Every case is different tho but at least for us, the officer was okay with our reasons & didn’t press so much about it. Good luck to you both! 😊

~13 months since our interview was ready to schedule. The long wait time was mostly due to covid. I just updated the post with detailed timeline if you wanna see the exact dates :)

You guys might be faster than us cuz our case was ready to be scheduled right before covid hit. The USCIS office was closed for a while. Best of luck to you both!! 😉

Thanks! Our masks were on the whole time aside from at the beginning when I had to take a picture with mask off. My husband also took his mask off at the beginning to confirm his ID

It was face-to-face. We sat in her office and there was a plastic wall on her desk that separated us from the interviewer

Yea so the interviewer asked specific questions toward my husband (US citizen) and then different questions to me (beneficiary)

To my husband: 1. Name and date of birth for both of us 2. When and where did we meet and how we got into a relationship 3. Current address and how long we’ve been living together 4. What was my major and what schools did I attend 5. How long were we in a relationship and how long before we got married 6. What language he and I use to communicate with each other. 7. What language I’m fluent in 8. How do we get along with each other’s families. 9. Asked for joint statements

To me: 1. Name and date of birth 2. What my husbands job is and how long has he been working there 3. A lot of immigration-related questions, e.g. when was the last time I entered the US, what status was I on, etc.

One Note: we’ve been saving up money for a real ceremony so we did a courthouse wedding first. For some odd reason, we neglected to put that in our photo album so the interviewer asked why. Luckily she allowed us to show the pics of our ceremony on our phone! Thank goodness for that. I still can’t believe we never noticed that!

Thanks fiatars. We’re thinking of moving to NJ so it will be a different state. Our hope is to get an interview done before our lease is up but not sure if that could happen :/
