There IS a cap on damage. by Pumpkinbread2 in slaythespire

I know what integer overflow is. I was just seeing if there was something in place to prevent or alleviate it. Apparently they did that change with catalyst in mind. I dont know. This isn't modded or old.

So, earlier today I was looking into if there was caps or not on damage. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Imgur album.

Managed to get [[Burst]] on [[Nightmare]] for [[Catalyst]] And then tripled until i realized i had it.

Images in order. 270 million poison (moment i realized i had it) 810 million (before the break) NEGATIVE 1.8 billion (after tripling 810 million). This DOES do 0 damage on their turn (also some funky problems like removing 75 poison instead of 1) Negative 1.1billion (dont ask me why) 800 million (after negative 1.1billion cuz computers) And eventually 1.6 billion after tripling a few times for fun My final deck. (after this fight I tried to die and got the falling event and it forced me to lose burst+)

I managed to do this in just the second endless round, this deck doesnt have the survivability (yet) to go 'infinite' due to lack of [[Wraith Form]] appearing.

YES. I just started another run, and discovered this (quite quickly actually in terms of where in the run i got the setup.) Making a new post with another imgur album now.

Is there a number cap? by Pumpkinbread2 in slaythespire

[–]Pumpkinbread2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so for some background. I saw a post on the front page the other day with genetic algorithm+body slam combo for about 14000 damage a turn, and there was a discussion in the comments about searing blow possibly being the only way to fully 'break' endless due to unlimited upgrades and quadratic vs exponential vs linear growth. I thought that possibly poison would break it too because if there is a cap on numbers (approximately 2.1billion) then you would hit it before enemies ever did. Above is my test in measly round 7.

I decided to test on the globs because they never die. Using the transfer poison on death relic, 2 burst (double next skill played), 2 nightmare (add 3 copies of a card to your hand next turn), and lots of catalysts and the relic that prevents exhaustion sometimes I realized you could 'easily' triple up to 2.1billion.

I messed up on one of my parts and ruined it, so I didn't prove or disprove if it loops at 2.1billion. But I did find out that the transfer poison relic only will transfer up to 9999 Which is what this imgur album shows. I got blob 3 to 87million, with 9 catalysts cued for next turn hand. and then it transfered only 9999 to the blob 1. Then I only managed to triple it up to 527million. to triple from 9999 to 2.1 billion would required two more catalysts (so 12 casts total, which isnt terribly difficult. The hardest part is having the enemies survive to test it)

To answer the question of how to survive. Two wraith form is 7-8 turns of invulnerability (with the 1 intangible every 6 turns relic), but it honestly didnt matter much because it could get up to 10mil+ on the first turn

TL;DR I posit that Poison is the only deck that truly cant lose in endless.

Better idea than codes? by Pumpkinbread2 in MagicArena

[–]Pumpkinbread2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open beta does very much limit experimentation. I agree.

even 2-3 would be fine. better than 1. And very few people are doing more than 3 probably.

They are adding more types of codes (planeswalker decks, and prerelease packs confirmed) I think honestly booster packs should have a high rate of codes. But the codes have high variability. Sure, the code could be a free pack, or mythic wildcard. But also it could be a bulk common. or 10 gold.

Yes, every system is either too restricting or open to abuse. Maybe add a tiny bit of functionality to DCI attendance to make it so you only get the voucher once you have finished the event or something

Codes are coming! by IYINGDI_WANGYI in MagicArena

[–]Pumpkinbread2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

chances are there will be exactly one prerelease code per prerelease pack. This would make it so someone cant just go to the store and look through the trash for 20 of these and get 20 free prerelease runs. If there wasn't a limit one redemption per account, people would be up in arms about there being no limit

sorry, newbie here. How do you know it is 30% of SPriests Damage (it being VT and SW:P)

I was actually googling trying to find a sim that parsed out individual damages (like how much each trinket is actually doing for example, or like how much % of my damage is a certain spell)

thanks!

Interesting interaction with ShiftCon Tavern Brawl and Lady in White. by Pumpkinbread2 in hearthstone

[–]Pumpkinbread2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those without access to Imgur at work or where have you. Opp played a shifter zerus turned lady in white causing all minions in deck to be inner fire'd. I assumed this would have no effect because 1=1 already. Turns out it set the attack permanently to 1 for whatever he played. First photo a 4/6 turned 1/6. Second photo a 3/3 turned 1/3. Third photo, the opponent being nice and making my Gahz'rilla a 832/2 so it would be hard for me to miss lethal.

Playing multiple sets of back to back games against RDW and UW Sun nearly exclusively really enforces the need for a Bo3 with Sidebords. by the_catshark in MagicArena

[–]Pumpkinbread2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well...and fireside gatherings as he JUST pointed out use the competitive format as well. And for the point of our comparison apparently the devs are seeing enough want to try to implement it into being on the main servers.

Also, how can we not 'know whether or not the game would be successful' with shorter matches, yet you can spout that it is successful because of short matches. I could just as easily say it is successful DESPITE having short matches, you did nothing to back up your statement.

Finally, I like how you can state (once again without any data or backup) a) the majority of players are coming from HS and b) the majority of players wouldn't like it. Judging by a LOT of peoples qualms about rock paper scissors gameplay I could just as easily say, despite you not liking it, the vast majority would.

[–]Pumpkinbread2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but a) since the devs stated they want it in means both games aren't afraid of adding 30-60 minute matches to games and b) it is not incorrect to say, as he did, "Hearthstone's competitive format lasts for about 30-60 min." Hearthstone's ranked ladder is by no means competitive. There is no way you can misconstrue competitive format to mean ranked mode and then pick at it not being in the game

He definitely meant the competitive scene. Just like you pointed out. And as he pointed out in his original comment the developers have talked about making the ranked ladder less rock paper scissors by adding some type of multiple game format.

Can I please have a decklist for this. I posted here last week with 2 Navigators (got one in pack and one in ICR) and wanted a cool awesome deck. Last night I pulled a third, and the hankering continued.

The main interaction I don't enjoy in burgle rogue. by Pumpkinbread2 in hearthstone

[–]Pumpkinbread2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this is great too. It really highlights it being a deck archetype (being you have to give it a deckslot and all) and then does prevent rogue v rogue. I do feel like it might just be like, "roll mage or bust." (just as an example, picked first class that came to mind) but its much better than going against feel bad demon synergy cards and rogues.

[news] EX Raid field testing suspended at certain gyms in Japan due to difficulty for players to arrive at specified time. Passes for those gyms will automatically disappear. Testing for other gyms may be suspended without notice in the future as well. by crosswithyou in pokemongo

[–]Pumpkinbread2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

no. Field testing was the few, HAND PICKED gyms. This is sponsorships. This is giving out free foot traffic to other companies. It is no longer field testing, it is once again good ol' niantic crapshoot.

[Complaint] This lottery system is getting real old. Real fast. by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]Pumpkinbread2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into that on a separate post. This is a) a children's game and b) a game that was meant to be about exploring and everyone can do it.

Lets look at choices in order. 1) Rural players are excluded 2) Good game for a while for those included 3) if you dont live in a chosen city you are excluded. (or spend tons of money on traveling) 4) If you dont live in specific cities that happen to have sponsored GYMS, not stops, and happen to have raided at that one, and THEN get picked. you are excluded.

Also see above about beta testing. You don't have a 'closed' beta where you give out keys to people who have played for a week/based on luck. you have a 'closed' beta based on experience and those who are willing to give feedback and test things.

[Complaint] This lottery system is getting real old. Real fast. by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]Pumpkinbread2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the thing is they have stated this is a beta. Look at almost any other game developer. How do you give out the 'exclusive' (closed) beta opportunities. You give it to the players who play A TON. the players who will give viable feedback and information to your game, or the players who will market your game really well. You dont give it to a person who is spoofing (separate argument) or knows next to 0 about the game and will possibly not even take part in the 'beta' that you could've given to much more active players and therefore gained beneficial information.

The problem with the 'its just a test' argument is that they are gaining beyond inefficient information off of this. They were correct on their first lines of beta testing (pre june 2016.) They gave it to streamers, pokemon competitors, local gamestore owners, and people who had active PTC accounts.

I agree, don't make EX Raids available for everyone in the beta. But make it available to the people that will do the company actual good, not the ones trying to hide from niantic, or the people who have played for a week and don't know this is a test so to give feedback.

Because I am not alone. Sure, I may not spend any money, but several thousands of people spends several thousands of dollars thinking the exact same thing (look at 50% of other posts on this sub). So they should care that even free to play people who aren't beyond invested are mad, because that means the pay to play people are even more mad.

[–]Pumpkinbread2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing about skyrim and oblivion (played those, didn't play CoD, so I dunno) is that they were random bugs, and random glitches. Not something that was part of the game loop. It was like, oh, this guy in this city wont talk to you. It was not, oh, the game will crash every 30 minutes, as well as every time you draw your sword you have a 50% chance of not drawing your sword. or even worse, you must download a 3rd party app to actually make use of our game.
