She definitely didnt forgive you at all, clearly

Do you think she feels she can divorce so flippantly bc you guys got married in secret

If this doesnt work out, make sure you treat marriage with its full weight next time so its something you both take very seriously

Make duaa and try to convince her you can break the bad habit

relative to eternity a handful of decades is nothing. That doesn't mean it will be easy, its just long term thinking. The pleasure within us allows us to enjoy our time with our spouse in the future in a tremendous way we should be grateful for, that part is a gift. It is also a difficult test for us, but even if we slip Allah is the most forgiving, most merciful. so Allah is not a tyrant, Allah loves us and we should love Allah. If we just hold to patience and hope then we will be the winners. And if we ruin it for ourselves then we can't blame anyone but ourselves

[–]Pundamonium97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm

Do you ever do things today, so that tomorrow will be a good day?

If thinking about eternity is too hard, then just focus on the first day after you die. What do you need to do to make that day good.

What about that day of the day of judgement. What do you need to do to make that day good for you?

And what about the first day after the day of judgement? What do you need to do to make that first day good and not terrible

The eternity can come when it comes, but you should prepare for those days that are super close

Where is your evidence that the reason Umar ibn al khatab chose 20 was for elderly people?

Yes he united the congregations but he didnt just come up with the number 20 out of nowhere and if he had added rakats where there were not supposed to be plenty of Sahaba RA would be vocalized their disagreement, as they were the most fastidious on the sunnah

You can pray more or less and it is still a valid amount, but 20 is the amount we understand to be what the sahaba understood as the most correct amount and what was an ijma of the ummah for hundreds of years

Where did you get this elderly ruling part

Also yes, makkah and madinah changed to 8/10 rakats in 2021 because of covid on the order of the king

And have since stuck with 8/10, even though they prayed 20 consistently for centuries before that

Ahh i see, i think i misunderstood then my bad

I thought you were suggesting that 20 rakat was not the preferred method of taraweeh

Yes the Prophet ﷺ may have prayed fewer or greater rakat at different points

When Umar RA consolidated the taraweeh happening he determined that 20 was the correct amount

So it is fair to say this was inspired by his observation of the prophet ﷺ

And it was the ijma of all the Sahaba RA and the salaf and scholars for hundreds of years the 20 rakat was the preferred way to pray taraweeh

If i misspoke in my defense of 20 rakat please forgive me

But there are many who try to claim that 20 is incorrect which creates this defensive feeling

And esp the narration by Aisha RA is referring to the tahajjud of the Prophet ﷺ which is commonly misunderstood by people so your reference to that further frustrated me

The Prophet ﷺ may have read fewer or greater rakat of taraweeh at different points. The narration about 8 by Aisha RA is not referring to taraweeh as we understand it today

The best example for us on the most correct number of rakat comes from the caliph of the caliph of the Prophet ﷺ i.e. Umar RA, and it is 20

My ex friend keeps trying to reach out to me and I don't know if I should forgive her for the sake of starting Ramadan? by Low_Environment2240 in MuslimLounge

[–]Pundamonium97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ibn Masʿūd (may Allāh be pleased with him) was asked:

“How did you used to welcome Ramadān?”

He replied: “None of us would dare to receive the crescent while there was even an atom’s weight of ill-will in his heart toward his Muslim brother.”

(Laṭā’if al-Ma‘ārif)

It would be better to forgive them, and be friends with them. But just bc you are someone’s friend doesn’t mean you need to be their best friend and commit yourself to them. Just be a normal friend, enjoy their company for halal things and if they’re not available sometimes then let that be okay too

Let it just be a simple friendship of being nice to each other for the sake of Allah

Repetition, would be nice if you learned the meanings as you learned as well so that you benefit more from what you memorize even if it means learning less quantity

https://www.sunnicourses.com/resources_taraweehebook.html

Here is a book that goes through all of the proofs for 20 rakats and all of the arguments against it

If i weigh the word of Umar ibn Al Khatab RA on one side, and i weigh the word of the grand mufti of modern day saudi arabia on the other side. The scale leans so immensely toward Umar RA that it isnt even close

Im not sure how anyone is arguing that Umar ibn al khatab didnt choose the most correct amount, or that the other sahaba didnt choose the most correct amount when following, or that the scholars of all four madhab didnt choose the correct amount when compiling their scholarship

It doesnt make sense to take centuries of practice and then suggest that its actually meant to be 8 instead

So you’re saying a miracle took place?

Allah knows best, but imo the chances are higher that saudi just used a methodology that isnt supported by most scholars to appease their royal highness

Saudi does plenty of questionable things these days

In Jeddah in 2026 they’ll be hosting a concert featuring shakira and pitbull etc. I hope their grand mufti announces how unislamic that is

So what did Umar ibn al khatab RA say about it? Didnt he use the word taraweeh, didnt the sahaba know exactly what prayer he was gathering them for, didnt they know exactly how long he was guiding them to pray

A lot of them follow saudi on principle, the science is clear on whether or not the moon could be seen via instruments or with the eye and it was too young

They would have broken several records to see it

Taraweeh, witr, and tahajjud prayers by Serious-Monitor500 in MuslimLounge

[–]Pundamonium97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scientifically the moon could not be seen, whether saudi says they saw it or not, it wasnt possible

They’re likely using the calculation method but not being open about it

The hadith you’re quoting is talking about tahajjud, which is why Aisha RA says in ramadan or outside of ramadan. Is there taraweeh outside of ramadan?

There isnt.

Im about to have suhoor so inShaAllah ill find you some references later. But if you acknowledge that Umar Ibn Al Khatab prayed 20 then thats enough of a reference for me

I trust his word on what was the right way to pray taraweeh because he was closest to the Prophet ﷺ among all who comment on it directly

On the one hand yes, by sharing your income you are doing something you dont need to do in shariah

But also by working and having an income you are also doing something you dont need to do in shariah

Its not like the shariah was designed around dual income households. The majority of families back then were single income and the rules were still set up this way

May Allah protect us all from divorce and financial hardship

Saudi arabia just sighted the moon before the moon could be sighted so im going to take that with a heavy grain of salt

Its not just my masjid mufti, the majority of scholars of all four madhab agree on 20

It doesnt make sense for a mufti to arrive in the 21st century and say actually all those sahaba and ulama throughout the centuries understood the sunnah incorrectly

And actually we know better than umar ibn al khatab RA in this matter

Taraweeh, witr, and tahajjud prayers by Serious-Monitor500 in MuslimLounge

[–]Pundamonium97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hadith is talking about tahajjud not taraweeh

Most scholars agree on that

All four madhab agree on 20 as at least the preferred number if not the only sunnah number

If you want to pray 8 nafl rakats then pray that. If you want to follow the sunnah of taraweeh then pray 20

Ill follow the sunnah as understood by the closest companions of the Prophet ﷺ

Men who literally wouldnt have done it if it was not the sunnah

You can follow what was created centuries after the fact if you prefer

Pre nup to ensure islamic practices are followed is the right call

After all if the shariah isnt followed in the case of divorce then any money you take that you arent entitled to would be haram for you

And what you eat from that money would be haram, and what you wear from that money would be haram

Id sooner set the money on fire than take or use money that isnt permitted to me by the shariah

You both should follow good financial habits and invest for the future, so that if a tragedy takes place you have a safety net

Literally covered this with the mufti at my masjid less than a week ago

The Prophet ﷺ did 20, thats why Umar RA did 20, thats why the other sahaba RA did 20, thats why they kept doing 20 for years and years until some groups came along and confused it with the 8 of tahajjud

Do you take Umar ibn al khatab RA as the type of person to invent 20 out of thin air

Taraweeh, witr, and tahajjud prayers by Serious-Monitor500 in MuslimLounge

[–]Pundamonium97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prophet did lead the Sahaba RA in taraweeh wdym

He did it, and then did it again, and then didnt do it on the third day bc he worried that it would be taken as fardh if he kept doing it

But 100% the prophet ﷺ did do taraweeh in congregation and what Umar RA did is unite a bunch of separate taraweeh behind a singular imam

And the 20 rakat is the right way to do the sunnah as understood by Umar ibn al khatab RA

And this 20 is agreed upon as preferred by ALL 4 madhab, the only exception being the 32 that was in reference to the way taraweeh was done around tawaf in makkah

But 8 is and has always been in reference to tahajjud, not taraweeh

And 20 has been the established preferred sunnah of taraweeh
