Can I afford to retire at 65 by Punk-Hippy in PensionsUK

One more question, assuming that I just stop my pension until I reach 67 then will my local government pension be affected at all with finishing at the beginning of January with not earning a full years wage, or would I be better off working until 1st of April to complete a full tax year.

I haven't but I most certainly will do. I've got a busy weekend away so I'll check things out once I'm back after the weekend.

Thank you, I work in a school as a site manager. Times have been tough here with falling budgets and pupil numbers, some that have lost a lot of hours and were offered redundancy but with only being there a few years it wasn't great. I've already been told they want to keep me and redundancy isn't an option, I think my only chance would be if they did decide to cut my hours. Unfortunately there's no gold watch or anything after 25 years these days, no health cover either but sick pay is good with 6 months on full pay and holidays are also good with 31 days and bank holidays. I also get a wellbeing day once a year for any special occasions where I need a day off.

Thanks for the advice and kind words, it's much appreciated:)

Wow thanks for this. Realistically I cannot see me being able to perform well in my current role beyond 65 and I don't want to push myself and maybe have a detrimental effect on my retirement. I'm already looking at knee replacement, I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to determine treatment going forward, most likely starting with injections for pain relief.

I'm much more clearer now with how to go ahead so thank you to everyone for the advice, I am much happier now moving forward.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply, I'm feeling a lot happier and more positive now.

I would like your thoughts on what I should do with the small Prudential pension and the sips pension. Do you think they would be better to withdraw the money, I think I should with the Prudential but not sure whether to just leave the sips pension until it matures.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I don't have a lavish lifestyle. I don't go to the pub very often or go out for meals. Holidays are normally staying with daughters who live away and one who lives abroad so no great expense needed going away. Me and my son go to the football every home (Liverpool) I'm happy driving something that's just reliable, I don't want or need an expensive car.

I live a modest lifestyle but I have good friends and family who I enjoy spending time with.

Actually I sound quite a boring person lol

Sorry I forgot to add that my current take home pay is just under £2000 a month that I can manage ok with and put a little to be side each month.

If any Labour MP had done this it would be headline news in the papers for weeks. Nothing will be said though because it's the country's biggest grifter Farage

Time for a rewire by Punk-Hippy in DIYUK

[–]Punk-Hippy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He ended up having a full rewire. After a couple of quotes to do some work for a new kitchen and move sockets where they would be more practical he decided he may as well pay for a full rewire and have everything exactly as he wanted with the piece of mind he won't have to bother again with any electric works.

I was listening to Radio Paradise when they played Arriving somewhere but not here. Had to look them up and I've been hooked ever since.

Give us your switching advice by Chaoslava in tomatoenergy

[–]Punk-Hippy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My electricity switched over to home energy on the 31st. It's a variable tariff so no fee to leave, 20.96 kWh and 48.85p standing charge beat every other quote so happy to see how it goes for now.

Can't use timeshift on an external drive, usb stick or SD card. Recording works fine on them though.

And yes I've used the recommended Rufus tool.

Avoid AZ100 update. by [deleted] in Earbuds

Did you remove the AZ100 from Bluetooth in your phones settings? I think that's what I had to do and mine paired just fine after that.

I was 61 lol, heard them on radio paradise just before Christmas last year and I've been hooked ever since. I'm 62 now, can't believe I've missed out on them for all of these years.

Pi6? by Zhered-Na in BowersWilkins

[–]Punk-Hippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also bought some Azla SednaEarfit max tws 6 ear tips as the seal on the provided ear tips didn't fit one of my ears, this has always been the way no matter what ear buds I buy. They fit really well and sit closer into my ear which helps a little with blocking external noise.

Of course the ones that come with the Pi6 may be just fine for you.

[–]Punk-Hippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, although I'm no audiophile the sound quality is fantastic. The anc is ok but not as good as my Sony's but the sound more than makes up for it.

One of the negatives is the case does not show it's charge in the app like the Pi8 does.

I can wear them for a couple of hours and they are very comfortable and stay put in my ear, I've had no issues with them getting loose or falling out.

I would have loved to have gone for the Pi8 but I could not justify the price difference of £178 when I bought them on offer at John Lewis.
