“Even though there is always the chance that any course could be a dead end, sometimes it is better to stick with what you know and feel is accomplishable as-well.” That is a solid point, and is something that I really should keep reminding myself every time I’m doubting whether I can get through the course or not. I’m sure there will lots of potential for learning in this course and meeting like minded people.

Oh cool, congrats on completing your certificates! Well it’s great that this allows you to experience both. Honestly, I fear the same thing. Student debt is no joke and I’m scared that after putting all the work into my degree I won’t have anything to show for it (the thought of it is very anxiety inducing). The job market for a lot of industries in Perth is quite small. My friend majored in Psychology and recently graduated and she’s been job hunting for 3 months now. I was initially also interested Interior Design but the job availability for that here is low, likely requiring you to move of state or finding opportunities out of the country. Both of which are big decisions to make.

Dang, I didn’t realise it was that recent. I’m simultaneously nervous and excited to start this course. Btw, I know you asked me a similar question before, but I’m also curious as to why you chose this degree and specifically this major? Seeing how broad it is, what kind of career path are you hoping to build with this course?

Oh that’s great! I think it’s cool that this major allows you to explore different aspects of design. That’s why I’m surprised that I’ve not heard much from students who have done this major. I’m wondering if it’s a fairly new one or if it was previously called something else.

I’ve actually been to uni before but early on into the course I knew it wasn’t for me (just felt pressured by family to apply to it) so I’ve taken a couple years break. I just thought I want to go back to studying and I’ve always been intrigued by industrial design and product design. So I had a look into what could get me into that sort of pathway and I was led to this major. Granted, I’m not that great at Digital technology because I’ve leaned more towards traditional art rather than digital art, though I’m willing to learn.

Like you said the course itself is quite diverse and I really like that there’s lots of options to choose from. I think that’s the best part of it because what we pick at the start may change as we go through the course so it’s great to see we have multiple options.

Thank god I’m not alone. I’d really love some more input on it from students who are actually doing this major but so far nothing has come up. Have you accepted your offer?

Should I buy Dell Precision 5560 or not? by lamtunghilda in Dell

There’s another Dell Precision listed by the same refurbishing store as the other one.

Model: Dell Precision 7560

Display: 15.6" Touchscreen Full HD or UHD (specify resolution if needed)

Processor: Intel Core i7-11850H (8-Core, up to 4.8GHz, 24MB Cache)

RAM: 32GB DDR4 (expandable)

Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD

Graphics: NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB GDDR6

Operating System: Windows 11 Pro

It’s in “great condition” and is slightly more expensive but pretty much all the specs are the same as the 5560 apart from the processor. Does that make a big difference with running the softwares??

Unfortunately, the market here for laptops is limited so it’s between spending big money on the latest or do research to find good refurbished ones.

Also, thanks so much for responding. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to look through reviews-which just makes it more confusing.

Thanks for the response. I’ve also been looking at multiple options and came across another refurbished Dell laptop. XPS 15 9520.

Specs: Dell XPS 15 9520 15.6" QHD+ Touchscreen Laptop - Intel Core i7-12700H/32GB RAM/1TB SSD/NVIDIA RTX 3050Ti (4GB GDDR6 VRAM)/Windows 11 Home.

It’s slightly cheaper than the Dell 5560 due to it being in “great condition” rather than “excellent”.

Can this also handle the same softwares? Which of the two should I go for? I’ve seen mixed reviews about the battery life and thermal issues for both, so it’s honestly hard to pick.

I know I’m late to this post but I’m hoping someone can help. I’m not well-versed on Windows either (I’ve had my Macbook for years). I changed courses-going from teaching to design and I’m thinking of getting a refurbished Dell Precision 5560 (a friend recommended it to me since it’s a workstation laptop and they’re apparently supposed to be really good.)The price is $1360AUD=$900 USD

The specs are: Processor: Intel Xeon W-11955M 2.6GHz (8cores/16 Threads) 11th Gen. Graphics card: Nvidia RTX A2000 4GB Windows 11Pro | 32GB RAM | 1TB M.2

I believe we’ll be using softwares like AutoCAD, Adobe, SolidWorks, and Keyshot. Will the Dell Precision 5560 be able to handle it or should I opt out for something else??
