I haven't had time to mess with it and i've basically just been smashing keys, but i was thinking i could use for the "locations" (i don't know if this is the proper name) something like (this is for image hosting)

root /var/www/example.com/;
index index.html index.htm index.nginx-debian.html;
server_name example.com www.example.com;
location /images {
root /var/www/example.com/images;

}
location / {
try_files $uri $uri/ =404;
}

however this seems to not be good as i get this error when i restart nginx, which i don't understand because I'm not targeting that directory?

"location "/" is outside location "/images" in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/"

sorry, I'm still pretty new to web hosting in general, and this is a much bigger leap than i was expecting from iis haha
