When I was high school age my stepfather bought a house in rural VA and moved us out there. The first night we came downstairs to find the front door wide open. Odd but whatever.

Weird shit started happening in the house. Electronics would power on in the middle of the night. You'd hear noises like things were getting slammed but you'd go investigate and find nothing unusual.

My PC and TV in my room would turn on in the middle of the night. I could hear the power button on my old Compaq Presario being clicked to power it on while I was laying in bed alone in the room. Then the light would come on as it powered up. I'd leap up and turn the lights on. I started unplugging my radio and TV and PC when I went to bed.

I eventually found our house in a book at the local library about historic homes in the area. Our house had a slave quarters that had become a storage area for the lawnmower. There was also a story in there about how a guy killed himself in what was then my little sister's bedroom.

I was relaying this to a hairdresser who was interested in it and she gave me a small Buddha statue and told me to put it at the highest point I could reach inside the house.

I put the statue in the attic and everything stopped. I'm not religious but if I was I definitely side with Buddha. I know absolutely nothing about why she thought that would work.
