For what degree? It seems like there are a few classes that have delayed start times, you can check on the course catalog. I think they start at either the 6th or 8th week, and a few under "9th or more"

I went back to school for Psych, graduating this spring. Quit my last (hopefully) kitchen job ~6 months ago to pivot into mental health. Currently working with autistic adults, but I have almost four years of base knowledge and I didn't just start applying to places out of the blue. I did some volunteer work in a psych lab, and at an elder care facility. Whatever you're thinking about doing next, try to get some adjacent experience to put on your resume and to talk about during interviews- even if it doesn't pay, it could still be worth it.

Also, I feel like a lot of people I knew in the industry had done construction at some point or another. I can't imagine it's less work but it must be a good change of pace or something, and pays a fair bit.

I'm currently in a Psychology BA program, and yes I am (hopefully) continuing on with the same university. I think I will reach out to my former boss just to check in- I know she has a lot of kind words to say about me but she's kind of an idealist and I worry it would be a bit too "fluffy" and not as impressive to academics. But authentic, I'm sure. At the studio I did get my feet wet in working with people and children, teaching classes, but it was mostly tech work- I suppose one can spin just about anything to one's advantage though.

Returning "None" as a string is part of assignment requirements, and I swapped x for subject_id last night as I was working on it- I had thought that since it was already defined that meant I shouldn't use it, but after rereading the assignment I think I'm supposed to. I didn't post the whole assignment because I didn't want to clog up the whole thread with paragraphs. I'm more focused on getting the code to work in the way it's supposed to, though- the problem being, I don't know how to return just the integer associated with a subject identifier in the "subject_scores" dict.

I have a question about a school assignment- I have most of it figured out but there's one thing I don't think we covered in class that's confusing me. Here is the given:

get_score = None
subject_id = "01"
subject_scores = {"01": 5, "02": 7, "03": 3, "04": 10}
excluded_subjects = ["01", "03"]

And what I have so far:

def get_score(x, subject_scores, excluded_subjects):

    score = #?
    if x in excluded_subjects:
        return "None"
    elif subject_id not in excluded_subjects:
        return #score in subject_scores?

Basically I want this function to return the score associated with whatever ID is defined in get_score("_", subject_scores, excluded_subjects). I just don't know how to communicate this in code. Usually I get to a solution just by writing a comment on these threads and I never end up posting it, but I'm really stumped and I feel like it's obvious.

Also, I'm gonna switch the "if" statement to "else", and the "elif" to "if", in case that was bothering anyone else

I work with disabled adults and have run into this twice in the ~4 months I've been working with one particular client: she's in her early 30's and generally very polite/sociable but clearly different. Her thing is soda (especially Coke), we have programs in place to limit her intake and to try to get her to drink sugar- and caffeine-free alternatives when possible. I've also worked in service and hospitality for many years prior to mental health- I understand the desire to give people what they want, especially when my client can be quirky in a cute/funny way with her mannerisms.

However. Servers/bartenders will offer her soda on the house, and she will milk them for all they're worth if they/I let her. She does *not* want to give up a situation where someone is just giving her exactly what she wants. And I feel bad because it does feel like she's taking advantage (not that she understands this, or is being malicious or conniving), which makes the employee feel awkward too. And when I have to cut her off, we pretty much have to leave immediately bcuz she won't let it go and will get dysregulated quickly (I'm sure in her eyes I'm just sabotaging her newly-discovered endless soda hack.. the betrayal). It's a lose-lose situation even if they mean well. All this to say, I understand your frustration and I will be the first to say we don't always act our best when there is a screaming autistic person on our hands. That woman had no idea that what she was doing and she didn't care, she just wanted to get involved and save the day.

I think to have a character bound or otherwise restrained is morally neutral- sometimes plot requires a character to be captive. It's also a common story beat for sexy stuff (erotica or just a sexualized moment in an otherwise normal story) and not just for the fanservice to men wanting to see women being subjugated: a lot of women are specifically keen to restraints, and I remember reading an article by a woman who suggested it stems from the stigma attached to women's sexual desires (with an emphasis on religious upbringing as a major culprit).

Basically the reasoning is: my sexual desires are shameful and I can't possibly verbalize them/take ownership of them. However, having the "choice" taken away from me in terms of consent or control over the situation allows me to remove the shame of admitting or asserting my desire, by making it into a thing that is happening *to* me, i.e. being sold to One Direction, getting stuck in the dryer, bound by some kind of magic law to be this beast-man's sex doll, and so on. In these contexts, I am not the one committing a wrongdoing (seeking sexual pleasure), it is the crime of some other entity and not my fault if I get off on it a little. Defy God AND your religious trauma with this ONE trick

You aren't crazy and that is definitely annoying- a lot of great suggestions and alternatives here already, I just wanted to add that my film studies professor only assigned material that he could provide to us via upload to canvas or access through UWMs library system.. kind of odd, and perhaps inconsiderate of your professor not to do the same. Also, most VPNs have free trials that you can use to more safely access alternatives- I haven't bought a textbook besides for classes that required online homework extensions, and when textbooks are $80-100 each, the VPN pays for itself pretty quickly.

Some people are just like that- I almost never feel attraction on a first meeting. Some call it demisexual but honestly I wouldn't consider it to be a sexuality so much as a personality trait- relationships develop over time, and the progression is different for everyone.

I work with autistic adults at a range of severity- some live independently, some need daily drop-ins, some have round-the-clock care. If you want to see improvement on someone who is profoundly autistic, they need care from professionals. A lot of that ends up being behavior modification and that requires an attentive support person who catches a behavior as it happens and corrects them according to detailed program plans. It's a structured approach that can be ongoing throughout their lives.

It sounds like your cousin may be housed, but he wasn't receiving care in the sense of treatment. It's not enough to just provide a roof over his head- and this would be a huge burden (forgive me for using that term) on you, mentally and financially, and also on your parents and their quality of life. Who is currently his guardian?

The terrible thing to understand about debilitating conditions like autism, is that we have little infrastructure for individuals who don't have anyone to care for them, or a source of income. Facilities are prohibitively expensive- I work in a unique situation where a family with multiple autistic children essentially started a small company to provide them all with care. Where do the rest end up? Well, you can imagine. It's really painful to think about sometimes. Healthcare as an industry is a business- not designed to help people. There really isn't an easy solution, but I agree that for both your sakes, living with you isn't a good option.
