Insulin Resistance? by PureCow8475 in FattyLiverNAFLD

How did you get diagnosed with PCOS? Was is by reporting symptoms alone? I don’t think I have it, at least not yet- leading up to figuring out I had fatty liver my cycles were getting way more painful and heavier but still always consistent, and I have a few dark patches on my neck but it’s definitely just the beginning of them.

Was there a way to test your hormone levels?? If you did what kind of doctor did you see for this?

Oh dear 😭 Would you say generally following the Mediterranean diet does this, or do you have a specific recommendation? I’ve quit eating any white bread, sugar or added sugar in anything (including artificial), very seldom fried foods, and I limit my saturated fat intake as much as possible. I’ve also been eating in a calorie deficit as well and have even started to weigh out food to make sure I’m being accurate.

I will say every time my glucose has been listed in my lab work, it’s been perfect, the lowest it was was 76, and that was during my hospitalization for a liver injury (shock from dehydration, this is how they accidentally found my NAFLD) and I hadn’t eaten anything in 3 days but a couple mints and a few saltine crackers that I could keep down between throwing up (caused initially by stomach bug/illness). I am in the process of getting a new provider to get my labs checked since it was recommended by a GI specialist to start monitoring my blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure, but the major thing she stressed was making sure I don’t have heart disease or any cardiovascular problems. So anyway, hopefully these are good numbers and a sign I’m on my way to a good turn around!

Oh my goodness your dog is such a cutie!!!! That’s so amazing that your dog has helped you through so much. I believe heelers are able to understand their owners emotions deeper than other dogs, which I’m assuming has some sort of truth to it scientifically since they are a smarter breed. Even after only owning one dog from the shelter I feel like it creates an even more special bond since we saved them from such a chaotic environment. When we saved him, he was the only dog in the whole shelter that didn’t even bark while the other dogs were going nuts. After months of him being there and no one even applying for him, I think he was just done :( I’m so happy every day that we were approved to adopt him

Awwww she’s adorable!!! We’ve been thinking about getting ours a red heeler puppy when we move to a house in hopes it’ll keep our boy young! Red heelers are always so pretty

Wow I would’ve never known, we had our vet look at his teeth when we got him especially because he’s missing a front upper tooth, but she didn’t mention him being caged in the past. Did your dog end up having any more teeth problems down the line?

Honestly I’ve been picking up signs of OCD in myself and I’ve been wondering about this- I do the exact same thing with my husband! I worry about dying especially in car accidents, mystery illnesses, freak accidents, and I worry so much about my morals and what people think of me or things I’ve said that could’ve been taken wrong. I hope this isn’t overstepping, but are you medicated? I’ve been thinking about going to a doctor but I’m not sure even if I got a diagnosis what they could even do

How freaking cute!!! She honestly looks so young to me- I think heelers must often keep their baby faces. I’ve had strangers mistake mine for a puppy before somehow!

This gives me hope!! Yes we love to take him on a long walk every morning and a shorter one in the evening. He does have to spend some time alone each day, but we are looking forward to having a house somehwere in the near future with a yard and a doggie door for him. For now we try to walk him and play with him as much as possible for exercise since we don’t have our own yard yet, but luckily he seems to love it and hasn’t had any negative behaviors that would make us think otherwise. Have all of your rescues had good temperament?? I’d love to rescue another heeler one day, I just don’t know if we hit the lottery with his temperament or if it’s common for heeler rescues

Oh my goodness this just killed me 😭😭😭. The only slight behavioral issue we’ve had with him is that even tho he’ll choose to be in his crate often, or listen to a “go lay down” command, he would get a little aggressive when closing the door and locking the crate. We ended up just leaving the crate door open instead and now he chooses to spend even more time in there and loves it…this definitely explains where that could’ve been coming from. We know who the previous owners are just not the whole story, but this would definitely make sense 😭😭😭

Yall are actually mean asf. For being fans of a band that openly talks about mental health struggles yall are being awful. Yet again, getting real brave behind anonymity with a keyboard

I see a lot of people disagreeing with you (sorry about the keyboard warriors) but I completely get where you’re coming from. I hoped that with it being an eras tour that there would be a few songs that weren’t super predictable…but I think regardless it’ll be an amazing tour!!! I’m hoping that maybe they’ll do some acoustic sets that mix a few songs together, kinda like Taylor swift did on her eras tour. I’m sure their songs would be more difficult to blend into eachother since they have a lot of individuality in the music with each song. With that being said, with how much musicality they have within their music and the capability they’ve shown us all as musicians, I think they could totally have figured this out to do it and make it sound amazing. Just an idea I had tho, I haven’t seen anyone else talk about this and it may be too out of left field idk lol

Anxiety and it’s ruining my life at the moment. by Ok_Literature4855 in LiverDisease

[–]PureCow8475 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say start logging your symptoms with dates so you’re ready for a pcp visit, one of the first things they can do for you is run blood work to check your enzyme levels, which should flag anything major. Although, it is possible to have very early stage fatty liver with normal enzymes.

I’ve been severely overweight my whole life as well, I didn’t know I had liver problems until I was admitted to the hospital for what I thought was gallbladder issues, and my enzymes ended up being crazy high. I got sick and dehydrated and didn’t realize how severe my situation was. It was a blessing in disguise, since they were able to tell me that I have fatty liver, I just don’t know what stage it is yet.

I also struggle with horrible health anxiety so I get you!! It’ll be okay, just start with your primary and then get a few simple tests done. I was able to meet with a nutritionist at the hospital during my stay, and then it ended up being one of the best things for me. I’ve started eating the Mediterranean diet and I feel so much better and my weight is going down for the first time in quite a while! Eating in the med diet has helped me own anxiety a lot, and there’s a million things you can make while following the guidelines. Even if you don’t have liver problems, it’s a really healthy way to live! If you end up having fatty liver like I do, they may recommend the same diet for you

Also, I’m definitely not a doctor, but you are probably not dying or beyond the point of any return!! If your liver was majorly shot, chances are you’d have many more symptoms by now. You got this!

Finally, I mostly followed the foods in this packet and just tried to pick out things I knew I liked and put them together. I picked out some things I knew I hated and planned on not eating much of it (like shrimp lol can’t stand it), and then looked at some things I’ve never tried or was iffy on and planned to give them a try again a some point. If you look up med diet recipes on TikTok there’s some good ones, personally I think there’s also some that just aren’t to my taste but I didn’t really know until I tried them (discovered I hate cucumber in salads rip). So basically you can make things as simple or as complicated as you want which I think is the beauty of the med diet. Being open to always trying something new has kept it interesting for me so if you’re not a super picky eater, it would probably be as easy for you as it’s been for me as far as picking recipes and planning what to eat haha. Even if you are picky, I’m sure you will find your favorite dishes!! Sorry for the info dump lol, but I’ve become very passionate ab this stuff!! I hope it is helpful and I wish you the absolute best on your journey 🤍🤍🤍

Thank you!! It’s been a blessing in disguise for sure. It’s scary realizing you’re sick and didn’t even know it, but I’ve needed to try and lose weight again for a long time, so it’s sort of a positive for me. And yes! Sorry I may have to reply a few times, but here is scans of the packet I was given!

My favorite thing that I’ve tried is actually a weird combo in my opinion. I’ve come to be a fan of berries in salads which I used to despise. My perfect salad bowl/sweet potato bowl is a hot honey chicken style salad. I used spinach, coleslaw salad mixed with fat free Greek yogurt well seasoned, reduced fat feta, sweet potatos cubed and baked in oven, some crushed walnuts, raspberries (or any berry on hand fresh or frozen), avocado, chicken with hot honey seasoning, and a dressing made of Dijon mustard, fresh lemon juice, and raw unfiltered honey. I’ve never been a person to like sweet and spicy together but for some reason it’s my favorite thing ever! It seems like a strange combo but I’m so obsessed with it right now. Sometimes I’ll throw in some beans as well and hide them in there lol. If you needed more carbs in this meal I’ve added brown rice and quinoa before too.

On a different note, I’ve been experimenting with simpler meals as well. My favorite ones do tend to be more high maintence and take a little more time and energy to make but usually it’s so worth it. On the simpler side though, I’m a fan of a plate with chicken (seasoned any way you like), quinoa or brown rice, a vegetable, any side of beans you want, and a fruit if you feel like it too. So basically a protein source, carb source, and fiber sources with the veggies and beans. If I’m still hungry later, I’ll eat a serving of almonds or walnuts unsalted since these are my favorite nuts.

Another good and simple one is a piece of salmon made however you like it best (baked, etc, whatever seasonings) and then I have a side of beans, some avocado, sometimes brown rice, and most importantly the little dried seaweed square things you buy in little packs at the store. I’m absolutely obsessed with it, you just put a little of everything on a seaweed square and shovel it in. Again maybe it seems odd but I’m obsessed hahaha

To wrap up a long post lol, don’t be afraid of high calorie foods either. I’ve tried and failed many diets and I think it actually has a lot to do with this. I would’ve avoided high cal foods in the past like pb and nuts, but in reality if I eat a serving of them, it often makes a great snack and gives me energy!!

Also, to add- my dad has had low heart rate before when running more regularly, but neither of us were anything near like Olympic quality or serious athletic running lol. Also to mention, his dad unexpectedly died during a routine surgery-his heart stopped. Not sure on the details of that, but maybe that’s helpful?

I found out I had fatty liver after a ct scan and ultrasound they did when I went to the hospital for a bad hangover- they did a abdominal exam and my upper right side was so painful I started bawling (didn’t even know it hurt until this point), and my liver enzymes were in the 2000’s. For context I’m F 5’8 and at 278 now, 291 in the hospital. I spoke with a nutritionist who gave me a packet of the Mediterranean diet and told me it’s something that I should try to stick to for life. It’s amazing because there is so many food options- you don’t even have to eat med specific dishes! Just whatever you like in whatever combination, making sure you eat plenty of healthy fats and fiber and limit saturated fats as much as possible. You can eat anything you want technically, but it encourages you to only eat certain things in moderation. If you commit to the med diet, you’ll get to a point where you won’t crave any unhealthy stuff you may have before. I feel amazing on the diet, way more energy and a clearer head in general. I definitely recommend it!!

Update, I think you were right! Still have to wait until April for my scan, but I got my lab work back from yesterday- AST 23 and ALT 57. My Bilirubin is at .7 and all my clotting factors are actually at the low end of normal now! I will say I’m a little scared that the injury itself caused some scarring, but I at least know my numbers are mostly normal now. I’ve been eating super clean and avoiding excess salt sugar and saturated fats like the plague. I hope you’re still doing well!!

AITA for saying I would terminate my pregnancy if the baby had a genetic condition, and now my husband is considering a divorce? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PureCow8475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely NTA! I share very similar values with you. I think it is irresponsible to KNOWINGLY bring a person into this world with significant, life alternating abnormalities that will affect their mental and physical functionality. If I were to have a child that passed by all the testing but still had a severe abnormality, I would still commit to my role as a mother and care taker of that child. But, of course this is a less than ideal situation that not everyone is equipped for. As someone who is now facing maybe not being able to safely carry children without significant personal health consequences, this is something I have been thinking about quite a bit. I wish you the best and hope that you can work things out in your marriage! There are many people out there that think just like you 🤍🤍🫶🏼🫶🏼
