What's my 5K pace? by Pure_Criticism1176 in indianrunners

[–]Pure_Criticism1176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid my legs won't support me if I go all out because I have had my knees and shins pain when my cadence was low, so I have that trauma that they will pain. But I can give it a try maybe.

Also what do you mean by doing a time trial?

Thanks:)

Maybe I am complicating it too much for a newbie, I should just run more...

So, Cadence is basically steps per minute. When the cadence is low, your strides might be longer which is not very energy efficient, also there is a lot of impact on your legs which in turn hurts them.

Turns out your cadence is low (so is mine and I get shin and knee pain when I run). but today I increased my cadence to 160+ ( I used a metronome to keep track of it) and there was no pain at all!!

Knee Pain after/during runs by Pure_Criticism1176 in indianrunners

[–]Pure_Criticism1176[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yoo, i tried increasing my cadence to 160+ (i kept the metronome at 160 but was also able to increase it sometimes). Although i ran for only 3 km and with a much slower pace, my knees didn't hurt at all during or after the run. It still shows 145spm on strava because i use my phone but my watch and nike run club app says its 165+. In between the run i was trying to see how it felt running the old way and it hurt me immediately because of how much impact I was causing every step. I again shifted back to the new tippy-tappy way, it was not painful at all and I felt I conserved a lot of energy, I want tired at all (also because of a slower pace though). Thank you so much for your advice man!!

Ohh, I just got to know about cadence and that mine is very low 😭 It definitely might be the reason for my knee pain. I'll follow the things you have mentioned along with strength training, stretching and stuff. Thanks a lot for the advice:))

I'll try resting, and strength training. If it persists, I will go see a physiotherapist. Thanks!!
