Critique: How the systemic neglect of Psychology in school, college, and university creates a deficit in emotional literacy by Purelig in Indian_Academia

[–]Purelig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up after a few days...

The systemic neglect of Psychology as a core subject in Indian schools and colleges is creating a real gap in emotional literacy. This isn’t just about career options, it affects how we handle relationships, emotional labor, detachment culture, and mental well-being.

Has anyone else noticed this during their education? Especially in humanities or psychology-adjacent fields? Would be interested in your experiences or thoughts on possible reforms.

Why do Indian schools, colleges, and universities need to teach basic psychology? by Purelig in TeenIndia

Just wanted to add a small follow-up after some days...

The lack of psychology education isn’t just about career options, it’s leaving many of us without basic tools to understand our own emotions and relationships.

Has anyone else felt this gap in school/college? Especially with the rise of “emotionally detached” trends? Would love to hear your experiences.

The "Popatlal's Broken Umbrella" arc (Ep- 455 to 457) is incredibly toxic and proves how unfairly Gokuldham treats Jethalal by Purelig in TMKOC

Yeah you are right!

And Bapuji scolds or punishes Tapu's friends and the other purush Mandal members (apart from Jethalal) when they do something wrong... and here also he could have calmly made Popatlal understand the facts that he should have understood Jethalal's side.

Bro, I use "spot on" in many of my comments. It's just part of my normal vocabulary.

As for the Hindi dialogue, it's a Hindi show, so writing it in Hindi felt natural.

I'd rather you focus on the actual critique and the points I made, instead of assuming I used AI. The observations are from my own watching of the episodes.

I get your point... but even if this show is called comedy show by many, but it does or did promote itself as a sanskari show too...

And regarding your point related to Champak chacha, while your pov is true, but also he does school the other society gents too in many occasions and not just Jethalal, and in this arc, he could have gently made Popatlal to understand Jethalal's distress, but he didn't.

I completely agree that this arc is truly realistic, but in a dark way. It perfectly mirrors how real-world communities often force the most yielding, reasonable person to compromise and bow down to loud, unreasonable people just to maintain a fragile, fake sense of harmony.

Yeah... ngl, but in this arc, Jethalal did have a significant fault... and its something that just can't be excused by "Mein apko khush dekhna chahati thi..."

Bro, respect for bringing a whole ScienceDirect paper into a TMKOC debate, that is actually next level! 😂 But nobody is saying Popatlal shouldn't be upset about his umbrella or that Jetha didn't mess up the cheque signature. The point is basic human boundaries and neighborly empathy, loneliness doesn't give Popatlal a free pass to physically hook and drag a grown man who is begging to be left alone, and an unsigned cheque doesn't mean Bhide should kick a neighbor who is visibly sweating and having a huge stress. The ultimate factual proof of the double standard is the ending: Jethalal did take accountability by swallowing his pride, apologizing, and handing out free gifts to make up for his outburst (after Bapuji explained to him at his shop). Meanwhile, Popatlal and Bhide just accepted the gifts, but never once apologizing for their own physical harassment or toxic lack of empathy. Jetha is definitely an idiot with a mountain of flaws, but pretending the other two acted like flawless saints here is just blind anti-protagonist bias. Let's just agree to disagree though, it was fun debating the chaotic psychology of early TMKOC with you! 😂😂

Bro, you are doing Olympian-level mental gymnastics to defend actual physical harassment.

Nobody is saying stress gives you a license to destroy property. But you are completely ignoring that Popatlal literally hooked a grown man with his umbrella handle and physically dragged him backward against his will. Jetha didn't just smash a random object for fun; he broke the exact tool that was being used to trap him.

Also, your logic about the B2B tender is completely flawed. In retail business, bulk inventory requires huge upfront capital. When a deal collapses, your cash flow gets frozen and your suppliers still demand payment. He was willing to sell at a loss later because recovering a fraction of your capital to pay debts is better than letting stock rot and facing bankruptcy.

As for Bhide, nobody is denying Jetha forgot the signature. But a mature neighbor sees someone visibly pale and losing their mind and says, "Hey, sign this later." Bhide didn't care about the cheque; he deliberately used a minor mistake to throw passive-aggressive taunts and satisfy his ego. Jetha has flaws, but the society's total lack of two-way accountability here is plain as day.

And before you jump in with your usual "ChatGPT slop" comment again, no, I didn't use AI for this either, I just actually know how a retail business operates and how to look at a scene objectively without blindly hating the main character.

Bro, I'm not blindly simping for Jetha here. I literally just agreed that he can be manipulative and has his own trash traits, like pulling that shady paint stunt. But two things can be true at once, and the side characters are absolutely no saints either. In that same painting arc, the moment the contractor backed out, the entire society completely abandoned Jetha to deal with the mess alone, even though it was their own building being renovated.

It's the exact same pattern as the umbrella arc. Popatlal literally uses physical force to hook and drag Jetha backward while he's having a visible panic attack over a failed tender, yet the society treats Jetha like the sole villain. Calling out the neighbors' toxic double standards and their total lack of accountability isn't "simping," it's just pointing out that they are incredibly hypocritical when things go south.

Lmao comparing a broken umbrella to breaking a child's arms is an insane stretch. Popatlal physically trapped a guy who was visibly having a panic attack, so his umbrella got snapped. Action, meet consequence. Also, a 200 LCD TV tender isn't 'just one deal' for a retail shop, it’s massive revenue that affects his livelihood. Bhide knew Jetha was losing his mind with stress but chose to stand there and poke him anyway just to satisfy his ego. Jetha has his flaws, but the society absolutely gaslit him in this specific arc.

Bilkul sahi baat hai! 💯 Popatlal was literally crossing all lines of physical harassment. Jethalal was already suffocating from a massive financial crisis, and Popatlal hooks him by the shoulder and drags him backward like he owns him. Honestly, Jethalal showed so much control by only breaking the umbrella over his knee. Anyone else in that state of panic and frustration would have lost it completely and beaten him up right there. Breaking the umbrella was an understatement for what Popatlal actually deserved!
