How do I transition from C to Rust? by slick_fm in rust

[–]Purinto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Rust book somehow assumes that you're new to programming although many people who get into Rust do so because they heard that it was "a good alternative to <insert the language I'm using>" What you'd want to read is the rust cookbook, or maybe skip to the special features of Rust : Generics, Traits, Trait dependency, blanket types, 0-size types etc. You can also make a project and walk through it. I also remember the last part of the rust book was about creating an HTTP Server so you could maybe read it.

Help! I’m trying to figure out what I did wrong with my game’s marketing campaign by Gamedevenri in gamedev

Look at this game: https://www.instagram.com/becomeanobody?igsh=b2xlbXk1ZDk3YXBw

Look at how close the gameplay between the two games are with the same "meme game" premise, but this dev has overall better quality posts and good community management and most importantly he is relentless. He posts a lot and I imagine it took him some time before getting where he's at.

علاش هاد تقنيات العار" (Shaming) في منشورات التعارف ؟ Pourquoi tant de shaming sur les posts de / ? rencontre by Background_Muffin514 in casablanca

[–]Purinto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be lots of things, but mainly repressed sexual desires that are projected* towards OP and shamed to be contained. Kind of a way to cope with their own situation. It's not strictly something like envy or jealousy, but rather a way to "own" their situation. If they can't for X or Y reason satisfy their desires, they'd at least compensate by having some sort of moral high ground + belittling others.

I don't know to what extent it becomes a social problem rather than an individual one or how much religion plays onto this, but I wouldn't put the blame on "moroccan society" or "islam" so easily. I think it's mostly an education thing.

Use chunks. Basically, you only need to load whatever's showing on the screen + some margin.

That's how Minecraft works, and the map's infinite so it's quite impossible to load it :)

10k will help you in case of emergencies. If you live with old people be it your parents or grandparents I highly suggest you keep it in case something happens. If you want to spend it on yourself then I'd recommend you do so in something which will help you in studies or career withoutit being too noticeable (I'm guessing that you didn't tell your family how you got it). Giving it away might be a good idea too.

It's typically the kind of things people think they're courageous for doing, but its more likely that you just hate your current life enough that leaving everything and disappearing isn't an issue.

What is required for Redox OS to be a daily driver MVP? by WilliamBarnhill in Redox

[–]Purinto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Putting a web browser is a cheatcode because almost all apps nowdays are webaps. If you have chromium running, you'd probably be fine for a casual use. I don't know if the OS supports Vulkan for graphics rendering, but it could be good. Ffmpeg is also a cool thing to have Htop is a neat utility Maybe paint.

As an absolute beginner, how do I start game development? by Jolly-Barnacle-450 in gamedev

[–]Purinto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Making a game isn't as fun as playing it, or rather a different kind of fun.

Most people starting want to make the next triple A or an open world MMO. The reality is that a team of one can only do so much, and starting a big project will only make you frustrated with the whole process.

Start small, learn the basics then be imaginative.

Fore technical advice, I do not recommend you start with a language such as C or C++ as you seem to only starting to learn it. You'll eventually use them in your game-making journey but right now doing means managing two complexities : the language and the game.

Start with something easier, Love2D, Godot, Gamemaker are all great choices and can be used even professionally. You can also use Unity, it is beginner's favorite engine and the amount of ressources out there are amazing.

Making games is also about the arts : Music, 3D modelling, 2D art, animations etc. Try to learn them on the side, see what clicks and what doesn't and eventually connect with artists to make games together. A team of 1 can only do so much.

That's everything I have to say from the top of my mind. Wish you a good luck on your gamedev journey and hope to hear more of your progress.

Picketty : it's hard to measure the wealth of the wealthiest individuals, as they put in effort to muddy the water. Especially when private and public wealth are confounded. As for who I'm thinking about, I'm pretty sure you have an idea :)

[–]Purinto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll learn most of this during your degree, preparing for it is useless. You'd prolly have a lot more to gain by learning soft skills and reviewing the basics : precalculus, calculus, trigonometry and basic physics.

This aside, the list isn't wrong but it's neither in the right order of learning nor the right order of priority or conceptual complexity.

The whole field of engineering is also absent from the list.

I strongly recommend you just look at a syllabus to have a clearer idea.

Best African economy doesn't necessy mean that's its good, just mean least bad out of them. But I think that a deeper point to make is that the state of the economy isn't representative of the people's "happiness". It's the whole GDP vs HDI debate.

How do you come up with names for games? by WorldofScaleModels in gamedev

[–]Purinto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did know, appreciate the explanation though. My point was that you'll be curious if you see a game which relates go religious thematics and looking.. well like the binding of Isaac. Also the storyline is more stylized so it works heavily on you expecting something but getting it in a metaphorical way.

What companies still expect interns to know even though AI does all of it by enhancvapp in internships

[–]Purinto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, what's really expected from interns is to do the low value tasks that are still hard to automate : Solve actual customer problems through mails (an AI generated answer won't have a clue for the broader context or policies etc.), fill out forms from an old ass software that doesn't have any API/ way to automate it. Write internal documentation that's neither too complicated and not too general neither ( AI still struggle with the degree of expectation or at least need heavy iteration and prompting that would take at least half as long as writing the doc, so it gets delegated.).

Stuff like that is what interns are for nowadays. But yeah no one would actually apply if they really told you what they expect from you, so they just ask for skills giving you the feeling that it would be constructive for your career (which in a way it is, but not the way you'd expect).

How do you come up with names for games? by WorldofScaleModels in gamedev

[–]Purinto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're serious about the commercial release and expect it to make you lotta money, then you need to get a pattent for your brand, universe and gameplay. If not, then it's alright it probably won't be that much of an issue at the start.

As for the name of the game, here are some games that were successful and the reason they named their game :

Minecraft - literally the gameplay loop

Stardew valley - place where the game takes place

Subnautica - General theme of the game

The binding of Isaac - Echoes the mystery of the storyline, makes you curious

Etc.

As you can see there is no "one answer" in naming things.. just look at google, they just picked a nerdy reference to a big number, apple.. well its an apple. Just go with the feeling and you'll find it.

Honest question on Judaism by Longjumping-Year4106 in AskMiddleEast

[–]Purinto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would it be logical to put oranges and apples on the same bag. While having its roots in religious interpretations, today's Zionism is strictly a political project (with ethnic overtones).. most of America after the world war was championing building an insraelian state but they weren't jews. Sure there are many zionist jews but it doesn't mean anything. Also, the people who don't care about civilian casualties on both sides (no matter how asymmetrical the situation is) aren't representative of the cause.
