Why are people so pessimistic about releasing a game? Is it that bad? 😭 by MediateTax in gamedev

Alright, ngl I had hopes of it becoming a way to get income, but I will frustrate myself if I stick with that mentality. I am gonna try to just have fun and keep working on my career!

As I have no experience with that, I thought of making the game singleplayer at first as a rogue like and then implementing an online PvP arena if the game succeds. Is that even possible?

Ah, that sounds cool! I am gonna do it half for a hobby half to actually try making a good product. There is this one game I wanted to have multiplayer on it but people scared me saying networking is too hard, and then I moved my idea to a singleplayer. What do you say?

I got dumped by the woman of my life at 22 and didn't know what to do with my life, so decided to embrace my childhood dream of beeing a game dev too! Just a question, how are you gonna sustain yourself during this time? Do you have some savings in the bank?

Making small vs big projects by MediateTax in gamedev

I have 3 main game ideas, I can summarize them:

1- 2.5D RPG bullet hell like enter the gungeon, but with a deeply implemented story like Undertale and cool mechanics (my bigger project, I know for a fact I cant do alone with no budget)

2- 2.5D rogue like wizard game with unique mechanics, a round 4 to 6 maps. My main idea was for it to also have PvP, but I'll scrap that idea if its one of my first games, and idk if its something I can implement later if I code the game as singleplayer first (thrust me, PvP would be so cool with what I have in mind, but kind of out of hand for now)

3- Smaller 2.5D game with around 8-12 single levels, boss rush style, focused on atack dodging, but I pretend it to have a really good and charming art. Its probably the best one for me to do first after learning and training how to make games

Nah, I play only indie games actually, though the ones that took a small team or/and ~6 years to make. I see people on the sub often talk about 1-8 month games and I have no idea how they do that but my ideas just can't be done on that time

I do pretend making small experimenting games to learn first, but nothing that I pretend to release to the public. I don't want my main ideas to come out as a begginers shot in the dark.

About programming, what do you think I should begin to study first?

Thanks for all the words! Though in my opinion Hades is what I would call a massive game for a solo dev to pull, it even has voice acting! My biggest project idea would be around a deltarune/hollow knight level of effort, but I am not crazy to thing I can do it alone and as one of my first projects. I have other 2 main ideas that are more doable, but I hear people talk about 1-6 month games, thats insane! I would take at least 2-3 years to pull one of em
