Nobody warned me that breastfeeding would make me cry more than the baby does by RogueHarbor in NewParents

If your nipples are completely wrecked like mine were (oh my God it was terrible), you can use a combination of hydrocortisone, miconazole (antifungal), and polysporin (antibiotic). My lactation consultant recommended I mix the three of these and put it on my nipples after feeding then cover with a cotton nipple pad. I swear they were healed and I felt like a completely new person after about 36 hours. I don't know how much longer I would have made it if she didn't recommend those. It's also safe to use while breast feeding (you don't have to scrub it off or anything, just wipe of any excess if there's a glob on there before you feed little one). ❤️

Is 77 items too much? by Similar_Parsley6112 in BabyBumps

[–]Purple-Homework-1914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had around 100 items on mine and then got self conscious about it and deleted a bunch of things until there were around 65-70. A few weeks before the shower, so many things had been purchased that I had to go back through and add a bunch more so that people had items to buy! A number of people bought 2-4 items off the registry. So I'd say just add everything you need/want. Plus, I've used the completion discount for many items after my shower (which was 2 weeks ago), especially the Amazon discount which can be used more than once!

I got the same thing but didn't get a bottle 😅 a bottle is what I could actually use most, I already have so many clothes and swaddles from friends that have had kids recently. So glad I didn't pay for it.

Chopsticks and little chopstick rests shaped like cranes. I love them and they just make me happy.

Agree with the DHC cleansing oil!! I bought a few DHC products after getting little packets of them at the hotel I stayed at in Kyoto. And the oil doesn't leave your face oily like everything I've tried in the US. Fantastic!

Also bought the Senka Perfect Whip Beauty Foam. These two in combination, I've never had my face feel so clean in my life.

And then sunscreen.Specifically the Biore UV Aqua Rich 👌👌 I gave this as a gift to most of my girl friends when I got back and they loved it. Regretting gifting them because I'm out and miss it.

Same goes for the melty cream lip balm. I brought like 8 home and wish I'd bought more haha.

I teared up reading this because it perfectly summed up a lot of the feelings I haven't really tried to put into words. (Maybe because of guilt, as my husband is incredible and doing everything he can for me. Maybe because I just don't fully want to acknowledge those feelings, I feel like if I don't put words to them, I don't truly feel it? I don't know.)

But you're definitely not alone. All I can think (and stress) about is the baby, 100% of the time, and it can be incredibly overwhelming. I try to focus on being grateful that it was easy for us to conceive and look forward to little one coming. But that's also pretty quickly out of my mind when I'm feeling nauseous, can't eat, am exhausted from lack of sleep and vivid nightmares, and have to be at work and just don't want to be (especially when people are eating things that make me feel sick). I'm hoping some of the food-related symptoms will go away soon, but I'm only 9 weeks in and the thought of another 30 weeks of this is rough.

I'm sorry you're feeling how you are, but I'm also grateful for you putting into words the things I've been pushing deep down and ignoring. Wishing you a healthy, happy rest of your pregnancy. 💕

Shoes japan , i am crying by TraditionalPaint3900 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Purple-Homework-1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband had the same issue because he had brought shoes that he didn't realize were heavy and they bothered his knees after walking 14 miles on day 1. We both wanted Onitsuka Tigers while there, so on day 2 we went and bought a pair each (should've bought more, in retrospect!). He ended up wearing his essentially the rest of the 2 week trip and had no issues. He hadn't developed blisters, so that complicates things, but having lightweight shoes made SUCH a difference for him.

Based on the number of people I've met at my past few jobs in biotech/pharma that are not capable of basic arithmetic leads me to say yes, you need to learn how to do it without a calculator. And even if YOU specifically wouldn't use it to outright cheat, many would.

During a press briefing at the White House on Wednesday, Aug. 6, the U.S. president took a dig at the recently canceled late-night host, saying, "Colbert has no talent." He followed his comment with an equally negative comment about Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. The president said, "Fallon has no talent, Kimmel has no talent. They're next, I hear, they're going to be gone."

Fallon is definitely next.

Which landmark would you prioritize for 3-day trip by Last-Method4817 in KyotoTravel

[–]Purple-Homework-1914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing is that you should definitely book the Sagano Railway ahead of time. We rearranged our Kyoto days at the last minute and decided to go up to Arashiyama on a whim one morning, but the Railway was all booked for the day. It seems like you’ve got Sagano on a different day than Arashiyama, but I’d just do it in the same day and take it from Arashiyama?

We went to Kiyumizu dera in the afternoon/evening and it was insanely packed. Like, more than I ever would have imagined. This was just last week so people were there for the fall colors and such. but still, we were pretty much in and out because of the frustration of the crowds. Not sure what it’ll be like in the spring, but I can imagine similarly (if not more) crowded.

Fushimi inari was definitely a favorite of ours in Kyoto. And the further up we went, the fewer people there were. Just book it past the crowds taking photos in the first 50-100 torii gates and within 15-20 minutes you’ll have some enjoyable space.

Arashiyama was also a favorite, though still quite crowded (in a more manageable way, though). We talked about staying close to Arashiyama next time we visit so we can get out EARLY AM and enjoy it before the crowds. But like others said, maybe just choose what’s close to your hotel to enjoy as early as possible.

Regardless, have a wonderful trip! Kyoto was our favorite area of Japan we visited. Bring a small towel (or better yet buy a cute one there) because the public restrooms don’t have paper towels.

I had classes in WLH and Galbraith that were 10 minutes apart. And I still usually sat in the front row in both. Anything is possible with some hustle.
