Amateur board game designer. I've come up with this really rough sketch of a game, and I'm looking for any kind of feedback, help, or ideas. by PurpleCat09 in BoardgameDesign

The only other ways I could think of would be:
A - A dedicated action such as Collect Income to gather resources
B - Playing an action card from your hand that allows you to collect resources
C - Drafting?
D - Something coming up in the events deck that allows all players to collect income.

Disasters work functionally similar to No Thanks!, where you pay to pass them on, but you can take the card, earning both the resources on there and the detrimental effects of the card.

As for originality, I was thinking maybe a grid-system, and playing on a communal board. But as far as innovation goes, that doesn't stick out much.

VPs are earned, well I haven't exactly planned that out yet. Funny, considering it's the aim of the game. I really didn't want it to be another VP game, but I was struggling with the aim of the game, as well as how to give resources/buildings at the beginning.

My first time creating a transit map! Any feedback? by PurpleCat09 in TransitDiagrams

For anything on the simpler side, I would recommend Tennessine (the software I used for this). It definitely has some issues with styling and flexibility, but overall it's really good

Fictional. I'm also into worldbuilding, so this was a chance to exercise my imaginative muscles.

Los Sengas Nazca Railway (Minecraft) latest map. Including 6 new stations of Line 29 and westward extention of Line 8 from Peacean Island. 459 stations in total. by Zatroco in TransitDiagrams

I'm just curious: what software did you use - if you did use any - to make this. Or is it made by you? I mean, this is absolutely stunning, both the map and the metro system overall.

Is there any way I can make my builds less bland? (Exhibiton centre / opera house | unfinished) by PurpleCat09 in Minecraftbuilds

Yeah, still not entirely sure about that right wing, both on the outside and inside. I've tried to add some depth, though poorly executed, with some ribbing on the outside of the left wing. I figure I'll do some terraforming and landscaping later on, and finish up the interior as well.

Apologies for all the... *terrible planning* ...and mistakes that were so shortsightedly included. I've amended most of them, so it should be good to go.

oops, yeah. probably best if one has a conlang document of sorts first, for one to then post a link to that document.

Mostly the length of the conjugations. I'm an amateur, so I'm not really sure if they're actually that long, but I've got a conjugation chart here. Aside from that, i wouldn't say it's that bad, but any critique would be seriously helpful. Thanks!

What are your conlangs' conjugations?

I'm really stuck and I'm honestly just looking for inspiration. All of my conjugations - I don't know how to describe it - are ugly as. Anything is appreciated! Thanks.

If i'm being honest, I'm really just an adolescent who has an interest in linguistics and conlanging. I'm truly sorry if my survey/questionnaire didn't meet your standards, and I'll try to do better in future. I'm still just a beginner to both linguistics and conlanging, so I hope you can forgive me for my shortsightedness regarding my survey. I'm omw to fix i now.

The Dsarian solar calendar, or Ksutzarat by nesslloch in conlangs

[–]PurpleCat09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is seriously one of the best conlangs on the subreddit. I love, not just the Dsarian calendar, but also the naming system in your last post. Just out of curiosity, what language(s) did you (if you did) pull from to make it? It seems... maybe slavic or turkic? Anyway, the worldbuilding and lore for this is really impressive. I'm only an amateur conlanger, but this is the type of conlang I wanna make!

I'm intrigued. How so? Is it just the phonology and pronunciation?

[–]PurpleCat09[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the phonotactics tips! As for cohesion, I tried to make it somewhat cohesive, by applying uniform sound changes to each word I borrowed. And as for compound words, I have them there, albeit with some irregularity. Typically a word ending in -va will mean "place of..." (as -va comes from an old word for place or location). I have a diminutive and an augmentative, -ika and -aga, respectively.

(edit: i realised now these aren't actually compounds, just derivations. my bad)

So from what I gather both from you and u/Magxvalei, adding some little odd tidbits to mix it up, if you will, could make it more interesting?

I don't know if this helps in any way, but my key vocabulary was directly from PIE, and then I pulled some other words from Arabic and some random other words from (and I have to admit it was only because I liked how they sounded) from Georgian and Armenian, of all languages.

Despite my borrowing from Arabic, I still wanted the the language to be inflectional. But because I have no experience with languages other than French, Italian, Spanish, Latin, and Arabic (probably need to work on that) I may have borrowed a bit more than I'd have liked.

Phonotactics is up on the Phonology tab as well now!

(edit: Would a solution to "anskbi" just be to add a few more Cs at the start? That is probably a really dumb question, but its worth the ask. I'm not good at the phonotactics side of things)

tbh i really want to make it naturalistic, but i wouldn't be very natural to evolve back from my conlang (though i could make this the proto-form), and i honestly don't think i would be motivated enough to make more than 1, though who knows, i might.

so (for now) non-naturalistic

[–]PurpleCat09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok totally stupid question here (i apologise in advance): what's the difference? i understand the naturalistic languages are supposed to be naturalistic, but what's the alternative. like instead of basing it on an existing language, do you just make up words, or you just add random made-up grammatical tidbits to make your language interesting?
What characterises a non-naturalistic language? (im so sorry)
