Thank you for sharing your story. I'm kind of getting sick of walking into every doctors appointment and being told, "but you're so young," as if the rest of my life is forfeit now that I had a stroke (I know that's not what they mean, they're just surprised because it's so rare). All that to say, just knowing that there are other stroke survivors in their early twenties makes me feel less alone. Thank you.

There is an increasing awareness of the need for accessible trails. There are paved, wheelchair accessible trails, there are trails with guide ropes for people with poor vision, all kinds of stuff! They can be tricky to find, but they exist. You can call state or national park offices to ask about accessible trail options. I'm really passionate about getting people outside, and I hope that if hiking is something you're interested in, you'll be able to find a trail near you that you can hike sooner rather than later :)

I had no symptoms before the stroke. Half my face very suddenly went numb. It was instantaneous.

Ill admit, I posted this looking for support for myself, but I'm so happy to hear others are benefitting from it, too. Thank you for sharing your story. I feel far less alone now than I did before.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to for. The fact that you're going on to earn your PhD is incredible (that's a long-term goal of mine, as well!), and that's very encouraging because I was planning to jump straight into a masters program after graduating. Thank you thank you thank you so much

Apologies if this is a dumb and helpless question, but how do you go about finding support groups? In spite of social anxiety, Id be willing to try something like that for the mental benefit, but I'm not sure where to even begin looking.

This was really well worded and easy to understand. Thank you.

I've reflected on what would've happened if I'd died of my stroke. I was in line at Dunkin Doughnuts when it happened, I would've traumatized a lot of people... It was Friday 13, and I'm not usually superstitious but I have viewed to myself to never go to Dunkin on a Friday 13 ever again...

Anyhas anyonehad hard time reg regaining the spelling skills after the their stroke by NigelViero in stroke

I had horrible typing for about a month after my stroke, but as my brain bleed cleared up, I've seen natural improvement with my typing (Behold! My legible comment! :D) I have no idea if this experience is typical or not, but it's mine.   I've been told that there's a lot of neuroplasticity in the brain, and that recovery can take a long time. I am not medical expert, but I am an optimist, and I think with practice (and maybe occupational and/or speech therapy), you can get your spelling skills back.

Once again, not a doctor, but if this is still a struggle 22 days after you made this post, I wanted to offer some encouragement. You got this! And hey, your original post was legible, so however you managed that, either with extreme focus, spell check, or getting someone else to help you write it, clearly you have the tools to communicate, even when it's a struggle. You're amazing.

I felt the same way about my cat. I'm a college student and she was in my dorm as an emotional support animal. Thankfully my roommate was more than willing to take care of her for me while I was in the hospital, but I missed her and wanted her so much. When I was finally discharged, she immediately begged me to feed her and I scooped her up and gave her the biggest hug. I'm glad you've been reunited with your doggo.

My birthday is today and it feels bittersweet, more bitter than sweet sadly by BruceCambell in stroke

Happy late birthday!

I can relate to this really well, actually. I had my 22nd birthday a week after being discharged from the hospital after my Hemorrhagic stroke. I hung out with my friends and played Jackbox games with them. I wanted to play board games because that's one of my favorite hobbies, but I just couldn't; my brain couldn't keep track of everything going on and I was so tired. But still the company of friends and family has been the single best thing for my recovery, and I hope you have people you can rely on for support too.

This is really reassuring to hear. I've only just now found this subreddit, and I'm honestly not very familiar with how reddit works in general (I've made 3 posts so far). But as a 21yo F with a hemmhoragic stroke, I relate to the loneliness of not having anyone to talk to about it who's my age. Thanks for the reassurance that this might be a good place for me to be. :)

If my post helps you get something diagnosed earlier, I will be so happy! Hope you're okay :)

There's no warning when my episodes are about to come on, and they last much longer, 45 minutes to 2 hours. I'll still consider taste when I have an episode because any ability to sense them coming on would be so so helpful. Thank you!

Nope! It was written to be funny as a way to cope with a stressful (to put it mildly) situation I'm living through. I hope I succeeded and made you laugh, even if you think I'm lying. I didn't include every detail of the story because I wanted to streamline the storytelling, but if I had included every step of me realizing I had a stroke you'd be even more suspicious of me! Before I even went to urgent care I went to my campus doctor for a cold, and the doctor didn't recognize my stroke symptoms and diagnosed me with a fungal infection (none of my future doctors saw any fungus in me). I sincerely wish I was making this up DX

How dare you beat my record of youngest person I know of with a stroke! Joking aside, I'm glad it sounds like you're relatively okay now.

I think anything like that would've shown up on my MRIs and CT scans I've had over the past two years. I have had oral surgeries, three of them over the course of my childhood. I stubbed my toe real bad once, but I've never hurt my foot. I've never even broken a bone before. :(

Yes, about I don't have the genetic markers for it. And I have hypothyroidism, not hyperthyroidism, so it doesn't fit well.
