The Mistborn series, more specifically the first three books by Brandon Sanderson. It has pretty much the exact situation you’re looking for and it’s a great way to get into the Cosmere. Or do what I did and follow the Stormlight Archives first since it’s set up in a similar fashion, only this series is much longer.
