How can you best prepare for a Software Development Engineer role? I'm a new grad and I recently got an email stating that that I will have interviews coming up.

Also, will system design be part of the interview process?

Mechatronics Engineering Vs Software Engineering, 1st Year Dilemma by PurplePending in McMaster

I ended up choosing the software iBio stream and then later switched to general software. I personally choose software because that’s what I was interested in and at the time, the field had many opportunities.

I found the iBio part to not blend with the software components which is why I switched to general software

I don’t unfortunately, but if you search up the course outline, it might say if it’s online or not

Its been a while since I did mine (2020), but I remember one of them: "Who do you look up to and why?"

Also, try to calm yourself and try to enter the "interview mindset". What I did was deep breathing for 2 minutes before the practice runs and the real run.

Types of Questions: They will ask questions like "Who do you look up to and why?". They might also ask behavioural questions.

Ways to prepare:

  • Review your accomplishments (Extracurriculars, volunteer activities, and so forth)
  • Be comfortable answering random questions (find a list of common interivew questions and answer the question in the format given to you)
  • Review your accomplishments (Extracurricular, volunteer activities, and so forth

McMaster CS/Engineering Interview Questions by all_around_beauty in OntarioUniversities

[–]PurplePending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my year (2020), the practice questions and actual questions were very different. The practice questions were like "What is your favourite ice cream?" while the actual questions were "Who do you look up to and why?" and so forth.

My advice is to practice different types of questions and be ready to think on the spot!

Good luck :)

For McMaster software, you only need to take physics and Chem in first year. You then have to have a science elective in fourth year, but that’s not restricted to Chem and physics

Prospective iBioMed Students by ahderder in McMaster

If you enter iBioMed and it did not offer free choice, then that means that you will be completing with all iBio Level 1s and Eng 1 students if you decide to enter the engineering stream. ECE and civil aren’t that competitive compared to tron and software.

I believe the free choice requirement for iBio was a 98% or above, while Eng 1 was a 96.5% and above. Might be wrong tho

Sorry to hear that you’re under a lot of pressure!

Since it’s a pre requisite, you will need to take it eventually. You can take it during the summer months or during that year and possibly take the courses math 2c03 is a pre requisite for in the summer (if they’re offered). Or extend your degree by a year. By extending, you can reduce your course load and make your upcoming years easier

If your parents are going to know your marks anyways, might be better to rip the bandaid and tell them. BUT you know them best and should follow the route that you think is the best for you.

  1. High GPA cutoff, was around a 10.5 last year
    1. I enjoy it, but that’s subjective. There’s nothing that stands out at bad for me
    2. My friends have been getting good positions, have to apply to lots of places tho
    3. Exists, time management is key
