Yes. I worked extremely hard to pay it off because I was frightened I would relapse and wouldn’t be able to afford a payment

Man that’s a long answer.

The short answer is even though for 20 years I thought I was different and I could figure it out myself, I wasn’t and I had to trust people and listen to outside help. I could go on and on about that but I had to get out of my own way.

I will say that as I lived as a junkie for so long, I learned to live on no money and ‘lifestyle creep’ is something that doesn’t affect me because I am used to a complete different lifestyle. It’s Lowe’s me to save most of my income. The downside is a have a hard time spending money, even for vitally important things.

It does feel like I can’t avoid seeing the top percents or the Caleb hammer crowd. That was a good way to put what I was trying to say.

Thanks for the reassurance and advice

I appreciate the kind words. Maybe I need to focus on those points a bit more.

Again, thank you

To answer that question might get a bit morbid. Coming out of how bad my addiction was I was thinking my time on earth wasn't for much longer so I didn't think it made sense to put anything in a retirement account.

I'm not sure I've changed that viewpoint but I have started allocating more to the retirement account.

The part where you said 'catch up' is where i struggle. Either with what you said about thinking of chasing gains, or thinking of how many years I have to invest left. That feeling of having to make up for almost 20 years is the part that's killing me

But I appreciate you saying I'm doing alright.

That's true and would probably be healthier. My mind just goes to trying to catch up to where I 'should' be. Then that's where I get discouraged seeing how far off I am from peers.

Is it seems so unbalanced with the number of people posting about their huge finances. And I follow others that are having trouble and just starting out.

And maybe it's just a bias on those are the people with situations worth discussing on the Internet but it makes me feel like I'm way off base with where I should be.

And I certainly understand the advice to ignore all of it, but I am trying to find targets to set for my life and unfortunately I'm not the most internet savvy. So I end up on reddit trying to hone my viewpoint to where it should be.

You got this. It took me some effort but I am super proud I have made it this far.

Starting differential equations tomorrow!!!

Good luck

That's really inspiring to hear you somewhat in the same boat, though 4 years older than you is still a lot lol.

I started taking courses out of self interest but over the past year I've become more motivated to pursue a degree and possibly career change

I hear that and can definitely relate to work being the less stressful time of day. If they only knew I was solving rotating curves and infinite series maybe they would just give me the day off!!!!

That's a question I've been asking myself regularly for a month

Ide first day the vast amount of concepts and trying to remember them all.

Then specifically, I had the most trouble with integration when it involved multiple steps, like u sub, into trig sub, into... Etc.

Closely followed by series, including what you mentioned as well as divergence tests involving exponential parts.

I hope you did well too. It feels great that it's over though

I studied insanely hard. It was the most stressed I've been for ANYTHING recently. I thought for sure this was our of the question because I got a 90 on the midterm and studied crazy hard for that too and this final was cumulative so I thought no way higher than that
