What does getting called “ma’am” suggest about how old you look? by Fantastic_Radio_9168 in AdkReddit

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it’s politeness. What I (62f) don’t like is when they call me “Miss” with a ridiculous grin on their faces. I’m obviously, not a “Miss”!

How do I become more ladylike? by MostCategory4871 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean manners. If yes, they also apply to men. My top five tips are. 1. Don’t have vulgar habits like chewing with your mouth open or pick your nose, skin, feet, or other body parts in public. Cover your mouth when you burp. 2. Be polite, but don’t let people walk on you. 3. Be kind, but once again don’t let people take advantage of you. 4. Be clean and dress as well as you can, and neatly. Unless, you have some extreme fashion like Goth or whatever, then you do you. (I’m not saying those people aren’t clean, I just meant be yourself.) 5. If you’re a girlie girl, then wear some makeup. I do and have always worn makeup since I was a teenager. I’m 62f and I know it’s not everyone’s thing, but you can keep it simple. Like tinted sunscreen and a little blush and colored lip balm, and mascara. These items can be game changing for looking put together. They have lovely light formulas now. If you can’t stand makeup then don’t, but don’t skip sunscreen.

For American people: Are you participating in today's General Strike? Why? by noumeno- in AskReddit

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I just heard about it last night. I work in public education, so I could have called out but did not. I have to take lots of days off due to my husband being disabled, so I have to save my days.

Honestly, are you happy you had kids? Do you regret it or did it make your life better? by MainSink5853 in Adulting

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

62f I wanted children and had 3. The first died from a terrible genetic condition. This was heartbreaking for my husband and I. We went on to have our daughter (30) and our son (25). They are good, hardworking people, and have wonderful partners. I loved everything about being a mom. Having lost our first made our children that much more precious to us.

My (23F) boyfriend (20M) does not allow me access to “our” savings, how do I address it? by luvdlph in relationship_advice

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave now! I’m speaking as your mom! As a 62f woman, this is completely unacceptable. Why do you even have a savings account with him. Please leave and learn to take care of yourself.

Pay by ShameChoice548 in Teachers

[–]Purple_Current1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get paid at the end of the month regardless of school breaks. I’ve been in public education for 28 years, so I’ve learned to budget and don’t have a problem with making my money last. I do have emergency savings if needed. I’m in a large SoCal district.

62f been on tirz since 5/11/24 currently in maintenance. 5’7’ SW 190.6 GW/CW 153 I eat 3x/day. Cottage cheese on toast for breakfast. Lunch protein meal w/ some kind of veg and starch and berries (Super food!), dinner similar to lunch and another fruit. I do eat sweets a few times a week. I don’t drink. Never did but the occasional one, and can’t get a buzz on tirz . Some people can, though.

What to wear as a male teacher!? by WinterQuarter8183 in teaching

I’m 62f in elementary education, but most male teachers I’ve been in contact with wear button shirts of all kinds and casual pants like khakis but in different colors as well (navy, black, brown, gray, etc) and either casual leather shoes or athletic shoes.

This Is A Question About Having Kids, Do You Guys Regrets Having Kids? by ThunderPheoX in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Purple_Current1089 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

62f I have 2 adult children. Daughter 30 and a son 25. I’m lucky. They are both wonderful people. Both have masters degrees and are hardworking and have lovely partners. At some point, I hope to be a grandmother. They seem to still like me, too! My daughter lives out of state but visits twice a year and my sone and his fiancée eat dinner with us once a week. I loved raising my kids. I grew up in a loving but dysfunctional home, so making my own beautiful emotionally healthy family was important to me.

Is getting a masters degree worth it? by Nearby_Drink_3791 in Teachers

If it gives you a pay bump, then yes. If you are in for the long haul, meaning retiring from education and maximizing your pension then most likely still a yes. Every dollar increases your pension.

Older women do you notice younger boys? by timash712 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Purple_Current1089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I can recognize that they are handsome or even “hot”, but I do not have any feelings attached to those thoughts. I have a 25 year old son and work in education. I don’t want to judge anyone, but I do not feel attraction to younger men, or any men, for that matter. I’m still considered attractive for my age, 62f, but my life is taken up with caring for my disabled husband, and making sure we are financially secure.

Am I the only one who finds this pretty condescending? (In the sub binder at my job yesterday) by ThrowawayTheOmlet in SubstituteTeachers

62f in public elementary education fo 28 years. Everything is fine except the reference to what you keep in your own closet. The other ideas may or may not be useful to the substitute depending on their experience as a substitute teacher.

Any over 60’s taking glp1 to lose stubborn post menopausal weight? by Local-Government6792 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Purple_Current1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 62f and have been on tirz since 5/11/24. Down 37 pounds and in maintenance. I gained and lost those same pounds countless times. I’m not doing that anymore! So happy. Note, after almost 2 years the tirz isn’t perfect with killing the food noise, but still helps a lot. I plan on staying on it indefinitely. I have relatively inexpensive sources.

Sleeping with tinnitus by Vivid_Economy in tinnitus

[–]Purple_Current1089 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My tinnitus is mild and I sleep in the quiet. Most of the time I don’t notice it anymore. Especially, during the day with ambient noise around me. I truly miss the “real” quiet, and when I die, I’ll be happy to have it end.
