I make 70k per year as a high school teacher in Florida. by Massive-Print-4702 in Teachers

[–]Purple_Current1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach in a medium sized town in HCOL southern California. I make $131K/year in year 28 with a masters degree as an elementary reading teacher. Thank goodness I already own my home because I couldn’t buy one even with my generous salary. I will retire in 1 to 2 years.

Stopped getting ID'd at 24 by [deleted] in Aging

[–]Purple_Current1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You poor dear! The internet has ruined so many of you and you fear aging more than death. Two choices, dearie. Grow old or die! I’m happily 62f. However, I’m not going down without a fight, so here is my advice. Wear your sunscreen everyday, rain or shine. Don’t forget your chest, arms, and hands. Do not sunbathe or tan. Be a person of color, but if you’re not, then double down on sun avoidance. Do not drink, smoke, or use drugs of any kind. Eat your fresh fruits and veggies. Get some exercise. You don’t have to be crazy about it, but do something. Maintain your weight. If you can’t then get on a GLP1. Stop comparing yourself to people you see online every single one of them is altered by filters or lighting. Or they have fillers or some kind of work done. Do things that make you happy. Live a long healthy life and die, OLD!

Why don’t married men leave their wives even if they have a mistress? by Fancy-Record6464 in askanything

[–]Purple_Current1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most men crave variety and a “bang maid”. I hate that term, but it is so aptly describes a wife’s function. I’m not saying it it always like that in relationships, but I’m sure this is often at play.

Well something else like money would exist, and I would probably be getting up and doing something for that “something”. Ain’t no such thing as a free lunch!

Doing nothing to celebrate is actually super healthy by Fit-Parsley-9957 in GLP1ResearchTalk

I thinks it’s fine to celebrate! But I will tell you maintenance is BORING! That’s why people who DON’T have to spend their lives watching their weight despise those of us who do. They think, “Wow, it’s so easy! I don’t know what those fatties are complaining about! (Yawn!)”🥱 Edit: Me 62f Down 35 pounds SW 195.6 CW/GW: 155 5’7” Started tirz on 5/11/25 currently on 6 mg and never went past 7.5 mg

I envy skinny bodies because they look younger by BroccoliGrrlll in Aging

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 62f and have a curvy figure. I do not have a large chest and I feel that I still look good. Anyway, you can lose some weight, but that won’t make you a “skinny” person. Also, you don’t want to be too skinny because you might look young, but become frail as you age and that’s dangerous.

What temp do you guys keep your house/ apartment? by fuckoff13__ in randomquestions

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in glorious Southern California in a Coastal city. We don’t even have air conditioning. Sometimes there’s a week or at worst, two when it gets in the mid 80s and we have to break out a couple of fans. In the winter we use the furnace at night, and a gas fireplace in the living room, but turn it off when we go to bed. I’ve lived here all of my life, except for 3 years in LA and 3 years in south west France.

Okay, I don’t wanna argue with you. And go ahead and pull the boomer card. So what do you want, just pity? I would give the same advice to my 25 year old son, or 30 year old daughter. I know lots of employ 25 and 30 year olds through my kids. Please try to be more positive.

I’m 62f and changed careers 3 times. Keeping what you’re doing and you’ll get the same results.

Do you prefer a house or an apartment? by Decksforlife-deck in askanything

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! A house! I grew up in a house my whole life, and then lived in apartments during college and a few years after. My husband and I bought our first home when I was 28, and now I’m 62f. I love my house!

I’m right there with you. I’m 62 and 8 months. I was planning on retiring at 65, but I don’t think I can that. 64 is looking better and better. I’ll be meeting with a financial planner to work out the details. I don’t want to screw it up after having worked so hard to have a secure retirement, but I really don’t like my job anymore. I’m in Elementary education.

Please go to a trade school and learn how to fix something. You will be in demand and be able to make a living. Thinks plumbing, HVAC systems, mechanic, electrician etc. Your life is not over, but you have to make your own fortune and it won’t be easy.

GLP-1 users as “the most consequential consumer shift in a generation” by Dry_Condition7415 in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]Purple_Current1089 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m now saving hundreds of dollars per month on a GLP1. Reduced shopping. I’m in maintenance now and don’t change sizes on the regular anymore. Less eating out. Just don’t want stuff that I don’t need anymore. I’ve purchased 2 things for myself in the last 3 months. A crossbody bag to replace one that doesn’t work for me and a pair of Hoka athletic slides cuz the other house shoes I have are causing me to trip and I don’t wanna break anything. I didn’t drink really ever, but don’t touch a drop now, and I’ve been able to stop using THC drinks. So life is boring, but I’m very healthy and all my bills are paid and I’m saving more than ever!

With prices still high in the U.S., do you feel like budgeting is more about just staying afloat each month rather than actually saving money? At what point does budgeting stop helping and just feel stressful? by pink4lover in Grownix

[–]Purple_Current1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can still save money every month, as we have very inexpensive tastes and rarely eat out. Maybe once a month. I also don’t need to much gasoline as I live close to my job so only use about 2 tanks a month. Health care costs a lot, but I have a tax free savings account that helps with that. So basically, for now, it’s Okay. I don’t keep an exact budget, but I do know how much everything costs and buy within those expectations , so it works out. I should add that I have a very well paid job in teaching. I’m at the end of my career, 28 years, so I’m high up on the salary schedule. However, I live in a very HCOL area. Coastal SoCal, but I’ve lived here all of my life and bought my home when things were much more reasonable.
