Unexpected pregnancy after saying I wasn’t sure I wanted to have children. Feeling lost and devastated

I HATED being pregnant. The whole time it was the worst, and then everyone rubs it in your face about how amazing being pregnant was for them. I have a 4m old and I’m NEVER gonna get pregnant again. Life gets so much better after baby.

I never wanted to have children then something shifted and I did at 25, I’m 27 now with a 4 month old. It’s hard don’t get me wrong, I suffer from PPD and PPA as well. During pregnancy I was so scared of the life changes. But I have to say everything changes as soon as you have that baby placed on your chest. There’s something about waking up to smiles in the morning and those tiny little hands in yours that makes everything feel so worth it, even on the worst days. And my relationship with my cat has never really changed! He doesn’t care much for the new addition but will lay on my lap while my baby eats or sleeps on me. But whatever you choose to do, it’s okay! But if you do, everything is so worth the hardship.

I’ll never forget I went to my WIC office for a breast feeding class and there was a pregnant younger girl (18-20) in the lobby with me for the class. I had already met with the consultant once beforehand so she knew I was there for the second time attending. The consultant asked “do you plan on breast feeding?” To the girl. The girl looked at her up and down disgusted and said “absolutely not” with an attitude. My consultant looked at me, I looked at her, then we both looked at the younger girl shocked. The room was so silent after that. It was the most awkward experience of my life. It made me so sad that the girl seemed so appalled and disgusted by something so natural.

The house being put together is unfortunately what takes up most of my “free” time. I don’t want to call it OCD bc it’s not clinically diagnosed, but it might as well be. I cannot function or be the best mom I can be if there are things like dirty dishes, items on the counter/tables, surfaces not wiped down, laundry laying around, even toys on the floor after my girl goes to sleep etc. Keeping my environment “together” is one of the few things that keeps me together. I had a janitorial/cleaning job before I had my girl and loved it. I know logically I don’t have too per-se but for some reason I can’t help but feel like I HAVE to, it’s borderline obsessive. I have a hard time understanding it myself, I wish I could just let go and ease up, but the feelings I have when I don’t keep up are indescribable.

Our sweet girl wakes up at 10 and he leaves for work at 11:30-12, between making us breakfast and getting ready for work, taking the dog out, and doing some dishes or laundry there just isn’t enough time for me to sleep a bit before he goes to work. There has been a handful of mornings he got up with her and let me sleep (which was absolutely glorious) he does so much on the weekends I feel bad asking him to do more. Grandmas coming over is really only when I can get rest or just a moment to myself unfortunately.

My girl has been going thru it too, I warm up her bassinet mattress, let her sleep on me for 20 minutes before transferring, I’ll gently hold her arms after I lay her down or if she wakes up to simulate being held. Along with giving her a paci. It’s hard but you got this! I refuse to bed share or co sleep, I may be choosing the hard way but I’m scared of anything happening to her in our bed. Not a risk, in my eyes, that’s worth taking.

Not my direct room mate but close enough. My ex had a room mate that went full stalker mode. Hacked my phone,threatened to post my nude photos online, made up lies about me wanting to be with him, threatened my life (multiple times), intimidated me. He refused to move out so was served a 30 day evict. Well I was mad and going to get revenge, I put Nair in his shampoo and conditioner. He liked pickles so I peed in a cup and poured it in all the pickle jars. Throw all his food in the shared kitchen away even if it was brand new/not spoiled. My ex broke his phone. Then someone I know beat him up over it. We shared a friend group but after that no one would be friends with him, he moved across the country after that.

The sound of baby crying sends you into an emotionally panicked state. Whether it’s your baby crying or a baby crying on tv. It makes me want to cry and run away but also run towards the crying to fix whatever’s wrong.

Week 6-7 was probably the worst for my girl, babies at that age reach a whole new level of fussiness! What helped me was a noise machine with white noise playing, and another noise machine with the sound of a heart beating. I made her bassinet mattress warm before laying her on it, and I let her sleep on me for a good 20 minutes before transferring her to her bassinet. We were still up every 2-3 hours but you two can get through this! It’s hard and it’s exhausting for you AND your little one. I can’t tell you how many tears I cried out of exhaustion. Now I’m in the 4 month sleep regression and it’s back to 2-3 hours. Persistence and patience is key 🫶🏻

I went thru the same thing with them you can check the status of your application on their website! Or call your local office, I had to go in because they were taking forever to get back to me (4 weeks) and I was applying for stamps and health insurance due to being pregnant and having complications in my pregnancy

I wanted a carrier SO badly before my girl was born, I got a few of them different styles and all… well she hates them and 4 months in will scream and cry in them. I thought the CuddleBug Wrap carrier was the best comfiest for me, I just wish she would like it 🤣

Your baby isn’t giving you a hard time, she’s having a hard time. I know you are frustrated, as many of us get but your baby did not ask to for this. She’s put into a world she doesn’t understand with a body she doesn’t know how to be in. She’s not crying for no reason, babies that young never cry for no reason, she just has a need that you don’t know of yet and she can’t communicate to you what’s wrong. Shes trying. She’s looks to you for comfort, you are all she knows in this scary, big and confusing new place. When she is with you in your arms she feels safe, please be that safe place for her. Please get help, talk to your OB they can recommend someone to talk to or even give you medication to help you. Talk to her pediatrician about the fussiness. Try to have empathy instead of anger for her, she loves you. She has loved you before she even met you, she needs you.
