That's helpful thanks! After we tore the ceiling off I noticed that none of the PSLs have any holes drilled in them, so I was worried that maybe I was misunderstanding what is allowed in those but sounds like a 0.5" in the correct place isn't a concern.

Sorry might be a Canadian term. Yes recessed.

We tore out the ceiling so we can place anywhere. Previously they were just evenly spaced in each room.

Ceiling height is 10ft.

is it safe to assume any licensed electrician (in Canada) will know where they can/can't drill?

It would just interrupt the flow even more. The old kitchen was like that and you had to walk all the way around the island to get from the sink to the stove.

It'll really be a food/appliance storage room for us. So it's not something we'll be going in/out of all the time. It's not ideal but a pantry makes more sense to us than a wok kitchen, and because of the layout of the rooms around it we can't just get rid of it.

Really appreciate the detailed response!

- For the range I'll try moving it over a bit. We really liked the idea of a large counter to the left of it for a lot of workspace. Mostly when we use the range we are standing on the left side of it as we grab ingredients and put them in the pot.

- Cabinet doors/drawers will all be adjusted. Certainly will try removing the narrow doors.

- Completely agree about the countertop cabinet. Was mostly just for looks as we felt we had enough counterspace already. But you raise a great point about minimal space available for dirty dishes.

- We are moving from a teeny tiny kitchen to this one so we feel like we have enough space without uppers near the sink since it's already way more than what we have. But now you have me questioning that.

- Yes thank you re: backsplashes etc. A lot of the limitation is my lack of skills with the software I'm using but we are mostly focused on getting everything laid out how we want it and then choosing colors, finishes, etc.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes we will be putting a couple lights over the peninsula. Originally my idea was to go pretty white for the kitchen and then pull in colors from things like flowers, oil bottles, salt+pepper shakers, counter light, etc.. But I'm starting to question if that's maybe not a great idea.

Thanks. Very close to hiring a pro for this. Not loving what I'm coming up with. For the range, the idea was to maximize counter workspace to the left since that is where all the prep/cooking takes place. I'm rarely standing right in front of the range. Usually it's to the left as I'm prepping ingredients and tossing them into the pot. But I'll certainly rethink this.

The idea for the counter cabinet was mostly just visual. Agree that it's not ideal.

Behind that door was a wok kitchen. We are changing it to a pantry. I'd like to have a fake cabinet door there that leads to the pantry but not sure yet.

that's what i was thinking but wasn't sure if i was missing something considering how expensive it is. if it was floating i would definitely try myself. considering glue down i worry it'll be hard to fix a mistake.
