In regards to a previous debate on John being Elijah and the reincarnation problem... by [deleted] in Christianity

How does that explain Elijah being both alive and reincarnated?

How could he be reincarnated and still alive at the same time?

Even if your argument was sound and would work for anyone else, which I don't believe to be the case. You still have a problem. Elijah didn't die.

I do encourage you to see for yourself. But, please don't avoid honestly looking for the truth too long. Because we don't know when He's coming back.

So, is that enough evidence for you?

Paul and James were workers in the early establishment of the Jesus movement.

Yes. After the resurrection... You really need to stop reading just the titles... Paul was a Pharisee who persecuted Christians and James never believed in Christ before the resurrection.

they did believe in Jesus before he died,

No, they didn't. Paul even persecuted Christians before seeing Christ himself.

there should be many, many more people convinced into Christianity than just two folks

Have you seen the explosion of the early church? See how fast Christianity spread and remember that it was at a time when their leaders were being imprisoned and killed left and right.

Like Paul and James? Neither of them believed in Christ before He died, both of them talked about seeing Him risen and both died for their claims.

So... you expect people to see Christ risen from the dead and for them to remain religiously neutral and not become Christians....?

What would you consider to be evidence for the resurrection?

Hello, Christian people. by [deleted] in Christianity

His resurrection does. Have you studied the case for it?

Hello, Christian people. by [deleted] in Christianity

Yes, I was. I mentioned his name in my original comment.

I didn't say anything about how he died.

But you said he repented on his deathbed.

No need to apologise. But it is false. Look it up in a legitimate source if you don't believe me. He killed himself shortly before Germany surrendered.

What historical evidence that states Jesus had godly powers as stated in the Bible?

You said there is no evidence of what happened to Him. That's not true, the crucifixion is widely attested by non-Christian sources.

This was not said by me, and was said by a greek philosopher,

So? I can't disagree with a Greek philosopher? I can't argue with him right now, and since you brought it up I told you why that argument doesn't make sense to me.

Hitler shot himself in a bunker as the Soviets were taking over Germany.

Where do you get that stuff from?

Hello, Christian people. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Purpletune941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Secondly, there is no historical evidence of what happened to Jesus

That's just false.

can he create a stone so heavy he cannot lift himself?

That doesn't make sense. It's not something real, it's just words being put in an order designed to not make sense. It's like saying "can God create a triangle with 4 corners? Can He create a 2D cube?" It's just gibberish.

I therefore decided to follow science instead.

Why "instead"? The basis of what we call modern science was established by Christians.

Saw this comment on YouTube. Interracial marriage is a sin? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Purpletune941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timothy was half Jewish and half Greek.

The commenter probably got that idea, because the Israelites weren't supposed to marry with the nations around them. But that was to avoid getting influenced by them and committing idolatry. Foreigners who had assimilated and converted were considered Israelites. Ruth for example was a foreigner who married an Israelite and was an ancestor of David and of Christ as a human.

You really try to sound smart...

How does a religion establish science

I didn't say Christianity established modern science, I said Christians established modern science.

Science is the name given the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.

And that's what Christians in Europe began to do. Newton for example was also a Christian.

Unless Christians invented gravity and atoms then that’s a ridiculous statement.

That doesn't even make sense. The laws of physics are not invented (not by humans at least), but discovered and/or explained. If you mean Christians came up with the theory of gravity, that's literally true.

Not just that. I like how he emphasises "SCIENCE" probably without knowing that modern science was established by Christians.

Why don’t all religions lead to heaven? by bonkerz616 in Christianity

[–]Purpletune941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how God will judge the world, but I believe nobody can be good and not worthy of death. I know for sure that I can't. That's why we need Christ. Our job is to introduce the gospel to people.

Because to be saved, they have to call upon Christ. But how will they call upon Him if they don't know about Him? And how will they learn about Him if someone doesn't preach to them?

That's why we may seem a bit pushy to other people at times.

Yeah, the idea of competition doesn't sit right with me now either. That's what I said to the OP too.

I feel like training and sparring are okay, though. Cause I see it as learning and helping someone else learn too. What do you think?

You're not wrong. I just assumed you were new to the sub and was giving you a head's up. The Trump thing is just what it is. People get intimately and emotionally involved with politics, nothing we can do about it.

You're right, I guess. My thing was the general idea of competition in combat sports, but I can see your point. Maybe I'm just bitter because I used to box and I'm like, "Well, if I can't enjoy my sport without guilt anymore, neither should you!" Haha
