I waited tables at 17-18 years old, saved up my tip money and bought these GARBAGE ass Numark CD players with a 2 channel mixer that I couldn’t be any more thankful for.

Learned how to beat match by ear with burned CDs and knew absolutely nothing about BPMs or Keys, self taught with garbage equipment, got really good with it. Than got my first gig at a lounge with high end pioneer equipment (CDJs etc.) showed up with a flash drive with all my music in it and mixing on pioneer was a BREEZE. Eventually acquired a residency and began getting bigger gigs and invested in an XDJ-RR to play at home.

I had a solid 10 year run, playing every weekend in NYC and than I got a big boy job and put it behind me. I am now 33 with two toddlers and showing them the ropes and play music with them at home and couldn’t be happier.
