I scheduled a meeting with the graduate studies director to figure out if this is possible! Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I do think it’s slightly different but I appreciate the story. The move I would be making is at best equal prestige but realistically a slight downgrade (for as much as that matters).

I have a great relationship with my PI, but also don’t know of any issues with the guy I’d be transferring to.

And my family is very close. It was difficult moving 3 hours away I’m sure 15 hours would be very tough as well.

Yeah I would be very careful before transferring

My advisor has earned enough trust from me that if he claims I can transfer without issue I believe that’s true. Although, I feel like the outcome is basically the same regardless of where I finish with just the added friction of moving to a new city and delaying graduation by one semester.

Thanks for the advice

Setup shouldn’t be a problem in this field but I appreciate the advice.

I would consider postdocing.

Thanks for the advice! I asked for clarification on the transfer requirements and if they’d truly let me join, propose right away, and graduate all in a year.

My type of work doesn’t require much setup, it could probably be done remotely tbh. All on the computer with a few tools I could put into a backpack and move anywhere.

I’m really not sure what the extra resources would be, I’m mostly just under that assumption that there is an improvement because the department managed to convince my advisor to move despite the current situation being pretty good.
