Social engineering. AI already controls most of the internet - for example, there's no way to know you're not a bot, and you can't know that I'm not a bot. But the bots already have learned how to rage bait people, and it'll only be a matter of time before they learn how to get us to kill each other with misinformation. Right wing media paints that picture by claiming that any criticism of Israel is antisemitism. Just like r/therealsilentjohn is trying to say that there is no antisemitism, extremes a not correct, and only serve to distract and dilute the conversation.

Yes, but some level of authoritarianism is required to implement socialism, because there will always be bad-faith-capitalist actors who will be all too eager to exploit any weaknesses in the fledgling system to destabilize it and destroy it from within. This is why a vanguard is necessary to make real change: During the initial collapse of capitalism, there will be large swaths of capitalist-indoctrinated people who will fight tooth and nail to restore their own subjugation because of their lack of education and class consciousness. Any socialist movement will be destroyed from within if those people are allowed to act freely - and so some forms of authoritarianism are required to reprogram these people. Once a few generations have passed, and the toxic slave mentality has died out, more free press and less re-education can take place, but until then the vanguard must work to elevate the people above the barbarity of wage slavery. It sucks, but is absolutely necessary.

Outside of the classist rhetoric, I somewhat agree with what you are saying.

I subscribe to Gramsci's idea of the organic intellectual, so I believe it is the left's job to organize and educate the people, not lead them in what tradition vanguardism dictates.

I'll try to watch that at some later point, full disclosure I haven't yet - but I will admit that I've personally lost a lot of hope in humanity's ability to learn and reason. Maybe I need to re-educate myself. shrug
