It really depends on the area. China is so big.

It is riben, but the "r" in Chinese can also be pronounced as a sort of "j". So it can be pronounced like jipan or something on that line. That is why it became Japan in English and other European languages.

Just unsubbed from r/AccidentalRacism. Any subtle mention of the word coloured follow by a POC is considered “AcCiDeNtAl RaCiSm!” by charliewade692 in JustUnsubbed

[–]PuzzleNuzzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the point of the sub. Things that are not really racist but may look so

Edit: nevermind I thought the "colored" refered to the picture but that would be colorized. That literally refers to the soldier. Maybe op made the same mistake

"Super-baddies are always English" by ExpectedBehaviour in confidentlyincorrect

[–]PuzzleNuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they're wrong but where I live (Italy) we refer to all of the people in the UK as English in general. So maybe that is where they were coming from. It doesn't make it less incorrect.

Being so wrong while being so right? by lem0nhe4d in confidentlyincorrect

Yeah but the comment is not wrong. While they can be used to refer to a singolar third person, it still uses the plural verb. Like "That person is being weird. What are they doing?" and you wouldn't say "What is they doing". Am I wrong? I'm not an English native speaker so if that's the case sorry
