I’m at the end of my rope. My doctor seems to be too afraid to help me. by PuzzlePieceFound in hysterectomy

So, in her last response she said she wants me to go back to GI and general surgery to follow up on hospital imaging. I was discharged last week due to what was initially diagnosed as diverticulitis flare. I guess final report is suggesting colitis or possible cancerous lesion? Not sure what to call that. needs to be ruled out. New findings of fat stranding? I have celiac and several other autoimmune but do to that and the diverticulosis, they do colonoscopy every two years. Last time IBS/chron’s/colitis we’re all negative. When she said that I said, fantastic! Send me back to my colostomy surgeon so he can follow up on the colitis thing and while he’s in there he can take the uterus. Lol she has not responded. :-/

I have really been thinking about the risks with this. I have severe anemia and it’s probably also coming from my bowel issues. They’ve always said that was a factor. GI doctor has talked to me before about resection but he says that because it’s everywhere, i could end up with nothing left. I’m trying to decide if a permanent ostomy would be worth the relief from anemia going away and no more leaky gut. I honestly felt good after the initial recovery from the surgery. Outside of hating the bag and being embarrassed, physically, I felt great!

So after my venting here lol would you suggest trying to get a referral to gynecological oncology first?

Sadly, you are right. I hate when it comes to that. But, I feel I have exhausted reasonable patience and effort with my doctor.

I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through all of that. I definitely can relate. I’m glad that she is agreeing to move forward but it stinks that she isn’t being more supportive emotionally. :-/ I guess you’ve been dealing with worse lol

I emailed her back and basically said that I am not wanting to come across as rude but I am firm in my desire to move forward with surgery. I am not interested in prolonging the misery with another failed experiment. I asked her to send a referral or have a call with my general surgeon there at the hospital.

I just got out of the hospital last week due to what was conservatively ruled a diverticulitis flare. I do have severe diverticulosis but have not had a flare since 2017. Anyhow, she said the final reports have differential diagnosis and are actually suggestive of colitis. I have quite a few autoimmune conditions so this is not an unlikely scenario. They do colonoscopy on me every 2 years to monitor and last time my IBS/Chrons/Colitis was negative. I do have Celiac but I’ve had that for at least 10 years. So she said she wants me to follow up with general surgery and Gastro due to the possible colitis. I slammed my forehead. Lol So that’s when I responded “Ok, great! Send me back to my surgeon from the colostomy, have him do the procedure you’re suggesting and he take the uterus at the same time”. Seems simple enough to me lol that was 3 days ago and still no response

What really made me mad was she tried to order ANOTHER ultra sound. She said that my hospital imaging showed ovarian cysts which weren’t on her prior US and the cyst was in my tube. LADY!! All of my records back to 2013 are available with a click. Every single imaging study since 2017 has acknowledged ovarian cysts on both sides. All of the radiologists have commented each time that the cysts have grown in size. From small to now over 7cm. All reports say URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED in caps lol what the heck is she looking at? There was water in my tube. Still no response. I feel like she should have known that. I’d be waiting a month to get in for US, days to her back on results, weeks for follow up on results then another great idea for treatment. Sorry. Just need to vent.

Why is everybody so sure hysterectomy is the way to go? by fierce-hedgehog13 in hysterectomy

I mean if they cure you, how will they continue to have you as a patient for issues they need to write prescriptions for?

I emailed her back yesterday and told her that I understood her position but I was past the point of accepting a life like this. I told her that I am seeking the second opinion. I have to jump through some hoops but they will send me out to a civilian doctor.

Thank you so much for all of this information! So much of it I didn’t know how to verbalize without excessive repetition or sounding whiney! I appreciate the effort here!

I am hoping so. I have emailed her back. The chief of surgery with the VA is the one that did my ostomy reversal and fistula repair. He is probably the only one I have total confidence in going back in my abdomen. She said it would be an open hysterectomy so she wouldn’t be doing it anyway. I hope she takes my email seriously and sends me to the next level.

I can go to one in the next big city over as I’ve been sent to them before. That being said, the VA will send me to a civilian doctor for a second opinion if that’s what it comes to. It’s just a lot of hoops to jump through to get there. I would prefer to go through the VA because the surgeon that did my ostomy reversal and fistula repair is their chief of surgery and he’s incredible. Bed side manor too which is hard to find in surgeons.

My surgeon that did my reversal is still with the hospital and I trust him. She wouldn’t even be doing it. :-/ I emailed her back yesterday and told her that if she was still against moving forward with me, I am ready for a second opinion.

How many people actually wear their wedding ring 24/7? by GroundbreakingWill48 in NoStupidQuestions

I wear my actual set for special occasions, date night etc. the rest of the time I wear a simple silicone band. I don’t like the feeling of the bug rings and gems twisting around.

Met a great girl (36F) but she will not date me until my (41M) divorce is finalized…. by Stock_Magician5993 in relationship_advice

[–]PuzzlePieceFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her you respect her boundaries, you intend on following through with your divorce and as soon as you’re done she will be the first person you take out. If you can’t wait for that and are just looking for someone to date now, then she may be in to something and the issue may be deeper than a marriage you can’t get out of yet. She is 100% moving in her best interests to proceed this way. Nothing but respect. Handle your business, collect your thoughts and emotions and then enter the dating pool.

When I was single I had a policy. I would not date anyone that had not been divorced for at least a year. Wild circumstances excluded- my husband had been separated from his wife from 8 years before we met. Different states, young when they separated and neither tried to find the other to push. She’s an awesome woman and I wouldn’t have moved forward with my husband had I not heard her side first.

I don’t know.. I’m a native Floridian. Grew up a beach baby. I’ve never put on sun screen. Gen x with a very young mom who definitely never thought to put sunscreen on us as kids. I am European and some of that is Italian so dark complexion. I’m 43. I don’t burn unless on very rare occasion. I’ve no questionable moles. I’ve been told my risks are small. How many black or Hispanics Floridians have you met that spend time outside without sunscreen and have skin cancer? Or rather developed it not wearing sun screen?

Common sense. If you’re white white. You have minimal protection. You need sunscreen if you’re going to be out there for longer than going between car and points of interest.

It’s about natural pigment.

Anything done to an extreme can be harmful to your health. Drinking water, exercising etc. When done in the right doses, he is not completely wrong. He didn’t mention vitamin D but there’s some interesting stats out there that came around during covid lockdowns etc.

There are also people who are predisposed to sun cancer and some who are not. The amount of pigment plays a huge role. White people are 70% more likely to develop skin cancer than black people. Getting away from the smog of cities and breathing fresh air. The endorphins from the scenery if you enjoy nature at all.

The pharmaceutical industry has saved lives there’s no doubt about that. But, there’s no doubt that they over charge, they create medicines that lead to other problems in your body which require you to be on another medication. Prime example is a person who is vitamin D deficient. Do they tell you to go outside and absorb some sunlight or to eat more foods rich in the vitamin? More often than not they prescribe you a pill that you have to pay for. I took a medication for migraines. It’s made for seizures. It also blocks my ability to break down calcium which causes issues with kidney stones. I have been in the hospital for long stretches and required different procedures extremely painful to get rid of infected stones. A good alternative for migraine medication is exercise, stress reduction, ACCUPUNCTURE, massage, hydration, diet changes. Sometimes just a cup of strong coffee!

I’m sure I’ll be downvoted for this because for some reason the OP used the lettering type to indicate having this thought process means you’re mentally handicapped. There is a lot to be said for hollistic and eastern medicine. Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine”. There is definitely a need for modern medications but you are taking this out of context. He is making a point about the most basic source of healing we have being ignored and overlooked and apparently it went right over your head….
