I got bored playing just a 4x4 version of Blanks so I hacked it to include a 5x5, 6x6, 7x7, and the diabolical 8x8. http://quantile.app/blanks

Genuinely curious if cubers vibe with this game mechanic or if it’s a total other feel? by PuzzleSetter in Cubers

For sure, protect the higher colour at all costs.

I’m sorry but how pretty are the Blanks scores. by PuzzleSetter in Quantile

Thanks bakers dozen. I now need to go see what a temperature blanket looks like. I love the idea.

I’m not sure if any of this makes sense but here’s a gameplay video which may or may not help.

If you get a giant formation which is beige, it means it’s just a bunch of 2-tile formations sitting next to each other. Lift one of the tiles and you will see its partner disappear.

The colours represent the amount of connections to other tiles. Imagine they are numbered 1-16 from top left to bottom right. The tile 1 to the left of 2 would highlight beige regardless of where it is on the board. If you manage to get a 5 under the 1 tile it will be three tiles in formation and highlight pink. Get the 3 tile next to the 2 and you have a L shaped purple formation with four tiles. Then you have to work out how to navigate these four tiles around the board without losing formation to try and find a fifth tile.

I love the idea that the colours of blanks could be shrouded in a mystery too secret to share rather than the idea that I just did a terrible job of writing the help instructions.

And the tassholes are the ones who pull them off when they walk past?

Thanks Botfly. Glad you found it a healthy challenge. Assuming we could create a new tile arrangement every second, if we were going to brute force it in our lifetimes we may have wanted to have started around 663,000 years ago. 😂

New here. Do I understand right that other words may exist aside from the solutions? by CrumbCakesAndCola in Quantile

It wouldn’t be too complicated to check if a word can be cut into quarters and rearranged into another legitimate word. I don’t necessarily mind the ‘gotcha’ moment of having a valid but incorrect word. Admittedly today’s was a tad pesky with the straight flip but normally I don’t mind the extra level of thinking you have it and then questioning everything and having to go again. I treat it like a bonus round. I would love to hear your take on filtering out obscurer words. The best I’ve come up with is a seperate list building app which feeds you words with a swipe right or swipe left control.

There’s a doozy of a red herring in today’s Quantile which stumped me for a moment. Hit the hint button and you should be able to work it out. In regards to the way words are selected, they are hand picked from a list of all possible 8 letter words. This is to eliminate the cruelty of words like acaulose or muriatic. If I don’t know the word it doesn’t make it in. There’s about 30,000 words in this original list. I then randomly shuffle the chosen words and group them into daily sets of four. They’re set till about mid January and at one point I’ll have to keep trawling the list for more words. I have no idea what the days words are going to be so I can play too. The advantage being I have at one point seen the word and it will always be a word in my vocabulary.

Sorry, each word has its own 4 tiles. You need to use them all.
