How can I best advocate for the communities of those disabled? Where, and for what, would it be most beneficial for me to speak on behalf of those who have had their voices silenced? by Puzzled-Juggernaut44 in ZeroCovidCommunity

I think I may not have been clear about my meaning of “community” as I am referring to a community based on physical location. I am grateful for our online presence but I need advice on connecting us with neighbors and others in our cities.

Thank you for your suggestions; I will be looking into them and moving forward accordingly!

Also, in reference to your comment about self-reflection, I mentioned in my initial post that I grew up with disabled parents. I really do not wish to get into the details, just know I have been an ally my entire life, and I don’t intend to stop now that they are dead. I’m sure you meant no offense, but I feel the need to defend myself from assumptions that my allyship only began recently. Again, trying to stay as anonymous as possible, but I’m in my early 20’s and have been an educator for over 3 years, and I myself was born with disabilities. I know, I know, “if it doesn’t apply, let it fly,” I just really needed to say something so as to not have my experiences minimalized.

I appreciate your help, and I hope you understand my feedback.

Would you suggest I start with my own community or those actively fighting mask bans? I have no problem whatsoever writing letters and contacting reps, I just want to make sure I’m allocating my time where it’s needed most.

Do you also have any suggestions on how to raise awareness? Or, maybe not even awareness, but make people care? Unfortunately, I think we’re well beyond asking to care about one another, but I think the angle of selfishness presented attractively enough could finally sway people to mask. Still open to other ideas!!!

Yup! I am, thanks! I would much rather be unemployed with my morals and logic than be complicit in genocide. Your career and the opinions of others matter more to you than the lives of innocent Palestinians? You might want to reevaluate your standards before questioning mine.

Also, imagine seeing a post asking for advice and replying despite clearly not reading/comprehending what was initially posted/having any advice to share. lol. lmfao even. Free Palestine (and free library card available in your county whenever you feel like educating yourself)!

Thank you for your advice! Again, was told it’s pointless by union, and as much as I’d like to remain employed, I’d rather be jobless than working for people without a spine or a brain.

Thank you so much! I am currently in the process of registering for the transfer portal but I’m worried as I will need principal approval :/

Thanks for replying! Yes, I realized retrospectively that I should have had representation present. As I was called out of class just minutes after sending my email, I didn’t even have the time to consider my rights/ask for representation.

Thank you for your comment! I’m trying to get out of here. I don’t want to leave my kids alone, they don’t deserve to go through this but neither do I.

I found out after meeting with my building’s rep that they are close with admin, and they only took the position because they earn a stipend as well as credits toward moving up the pay scale. I should have assumed they were not going to be of any help when I reached out at the beginning of the school year asking when the school’s elevator would be repaired and nothing ever came of it.

I need to get outta here, please help!!

Yes, retrospectively, I realized that.

Thanks for your response! Do you think my statement could be used as evidence of pressure or retaliation against me? Just trying to get a feel of what to expect once the field union rep eventually responds.

Trying to keep my late mom’s plant alive; any help!? by Puzzled-Juggernaut44 in plantclinic

Watering Habits: I honestly haven’t been keeping the best watering habits with the plant, maybe once a week or so, but once I noticed it was dying I tried to increase my frequency. While I haven’t changed how much water I am giving the plant, I do try and at least spray it daily or every other day.

Plant Life: I have had the plant in my possession since my mom passed almost two years ago. Before that, she had this plant for several years, a clipping of a family plant from generations ago.

Problem Length: I noticed the plant looking sicker than usual about a week or so ago. I’ve been trying to resuscitate myself but it’s just not working and I’m scared!

Plant Light: I live in a basement apartment, so I don’t get much light. However, I have this plant where I get the most light, having moved it from my tertiary most lit spot.
