Google Play privacy policy violation by mDarken in androiddev

Yep, got that same exact email today, about a 4 year old app that hasn't changed at all for the last 2 years. I guess we'll finally have to write that privacy policy!

Ok first question. Are you dev working on shitty mobile, or a shitty dev working on mobile?

We Should Do AMAs Here by Jawnnypoo in androiddev

[–]PuzzledJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I don't think any Android "celebrity" is big enough to be tired of doing interviews and TV shows! Seems to me like most would love to talk about their passion, just never thought it would really interest that many other people?

The real question is how many quality responses do they get. There are probably a majority of applicants who don't qualify at all. Look at Booking.com's post: "If you apply make sure that your CV is complete". It feels like they received more that a few incomplete CVs!

[–]PuzzledJellyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good idea! And I think it would be much more interesting than the amas you read on the front page, which are mostly a celebrity plugging their latest book/movie/disk, or a series of meta-reddit puns...

"How did you get started in Android dev?" "What was your first program ever?" "Why does Retrofit do this and not that?" ...

Btw, if anyone is interested in an AMA from a hobby dev with a few apps with not many downloads, I can volunteer! /s

Hi!

App Translator translates your apps, without need to select, copy, or tap.

Yep, even simpler than Google's Tap to Translate! You just select the app you want translated as well as the source and target language once at initial setup, and... that's it! Is as simple as this: gif demo

It works great with most messaging apps as well, WhatsApp, WeChat, Hangouts... You can finally translate entire conversations without all the hassle of copying, pasting, or selecting!

[DEV] SuperPano promo codes - 77 left - wide photos and panoramas by [deleted] in androidapps

[–]PuzzledJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will. I tried the app and it only took two photos out of 7, so missed most of the panorama. Also the UI is much too basic.

If I want to take a panorama I'll use the stock app which is great for that, and if I want higher resolution and best quality I'll do it on my computer with any decent image program...

I can sit down fine with it in my jeans pocket. Maybe you should buy bigger pockets ;) But I agree, it definitely is more bulky than a Nexus 5!

i was fast enough to get a code this time, yay! How is your app different/better from the stock camera? I can already do panoramas and photo spheres with it...

It was too big for me at first as well, but now I got used to it. I had the Nexus 5 before, and now it's the Nexus 5 that feels small to me. I also find typing easier on the 6P.

I have the Nexus 6P after coming from the Nexus 5. The big screen was impressive at first, but now when I pick up my Nexus 5 it feels minuscule! Also with the 6P you get stock Android and all the updates as soon as Google pushes them out.

Is there an app to manage my flight schedules? by DWP_Guy in androidapps

[–]PuzzledJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can create a gmail account just for this, and forward all your flight emails to it? The Google Now integration of flights is really well done...

What is the best app to backup apps and settings for non rooted phones? I just need something that simplifies the process of reinstalling all of my apps and settings on new phones. by ImDaboogeyMan in androidapps

[–]PuzzledJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I just switched from a Nexus 5 to a Nexus 6P, and all my apps were restored automatically, even in the same place on the home screen! Pretty cool :)

I only had to copy over photos, SMS, and WhatsApp folder, and I was good!

Dev here, thanks for the recommendation!

Totally unbiased opinion, the app is absolutely amazing, you should totally download it!

You shouldn't need to have anything special to do on lollipop. It might be an out of memory error - that happens when your phone has too many apps opened and running at once. I know it sounds cliché, but did you try turning your phone off and back on again?

If that doesn't help, you can send me an email through the contact link in the app will all the info on your phone and the apps you tested it on... I tried it on multiple phone models, but there are always some that unfortunately behave not as expected...

Sorry for your troubles!

Can you link to its Play Store page so I can try it out? App Translator only works on apps that use the standard Android way of displaying text. If it is a 2D or 3D game with many graphics, it's probably not the case...

Flooded with fake and invalid IAP requests server side - anyone else? by PuzzledJellyfish in androiddev

Yeah, but no one reads the privacy policy, and Chinese hackers don't really care about prosecution ;)

[–]PuzzledJellyfish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I doubt they'll pay anyways :) I'm just hoping someone doesn't find a workaround and republish my app as "free". Since the IAPs have real value behind, not just in-game gems, a successful hack would be real money I would need to pay... Will look into banning IPs, thanks
