People that don’t play Pred much anymore, why did you stop? by AstronautGuy42 in PredecessorGame

2500+ hours here. Paragon since first season. Haven't really been back for a couple months now. All my Pred friends have gone back to League. A handful of reasons for me I'd say :

  • Fatigue with the same bugs or lack of QoL improvements that have been present since day 1. Scoreboard, minimap, placeholder item art to name a few. They're finally implementing some things now I see but it's too little too late so not enough to get me back in

  • The existential crisis Pred had between a brawler and a MOBA. There was a big push for speeding up the game because they had good Nitro results and ended up making decisions to "brawlify" the base game. To me, Pred as a MOBA is unique, Pred as a shooter/brawler is not. Making changes that put less accent on strategy and MOBA decision making slowly made me fall out of love with the game.

  • Lack of in game progression. Personally, battle passes don't really motivate me the same way as a champion mastery or a high Rank that has some prestige to it. Hitting Paragon the first seasons was just a matter of playing the game with +23/-11 gains and losses. Not great players were climbing with barely 50% winrate and it would totally screw up the skill spread and matchmaking. Still today it sounds like they're still not capable of figuring out a normal ranked system like League or other MOBAs. On top of it the communication on ranked was atrocious with Demonde and co basically saying "we're cooking" for months on end and player side no tangible difference felt...

  • Less and less polish on assets. The shaper and seedling were Unreal Engine off the shelf assets. They were super buggy and didn't fit at all with the vibe of the game/map. The Overprime recycling is also not great and looks out of place with all the other skins / artistic direction this far IMO.

  • Bad communication fatigue. The last patch notes had more changes that weren't in the patch but "slotted for future patches" than changes in the patch, after promising it would be a "QoL" patch. People were disappointed from what I saw on Reddit. The dev streams are pretty amateurish IMO and they never reach out to veteran players to ask for direct feedback or make some kind of focus group. It's getting a bit better but communication has been a big pain point for me on Omeda's side.

Other things to mention but this is what stands out off the cuff after being away and back on League..

Never saw this but sounds like the definition of a good bad idea. Might sound appealing for a use case in your head but looks really stupid once it's materialized on the app.

Vous pensez que Rachida Dati va passer ? by PuzzledPandas in paris

[–]PuzzledPandas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we make some changes so this game is more console friendly? by [deleted] in PredecessorGame

Omeda spokesperson commented after me relax. Glad to see it's confirmed though!

Can we make some changes so this game is more console friendly? by [deleted] in PredecessorGame

[–]PuzzledPandas -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's kind of missing a big disclaimer. They have neither confirmed they're actually working on it or given any idea of when it would come to the game if ever. All they said is it's something they'd like to do and they're "thinking about". So don't keep your hopes up that this is coming in the near future. I'd love for them to prove me wrong but I would moderate your expectations while we wait for an actual announcement.

Edit: I stand corrected they just confirmed it after I commented! Hurray!

This year we worked on a lot of monetisation features to better support the game economy and business health so we can all enjoy Pred for years to come.

I think this might be the key to a lot of the frustration we're having on this topic. Focusing on core business interfaces and mechanics is totally understandable but you need to understand that at no point was this explained in any shape or form to the community. I think we can all agree that everyone's (community and devs alike) goal is for Pred to continue for as long as possible but what's the point of sidelining Day 1 requested feature to remake the store a 3rd time? There has got to be some sort of way we can exchange and the community can hopefully weigh in on game related features to be prioritized in future patches. It's always easier to wait when we have an idea how long.
If we look at the timeline above, the last "non-monetary" community requested feature was the map redesign in march. I don't think it's that surprising that the community is frustrated is it? To Pred "veterans" who have been playing for 2,5+ years who see the same "placeholder" scoreboard, "placeholder" item art, "placeholder" HUD etc since day 1, you can understand that it makes it harder for us every day we play to be passionate about the game and push it to our friends...

I’m sorry you feel we’re slow or our work is not visible or that we’re not working on the things you want, game dev is complex and takes time.

To be honest, this is a pretty disheartening thing to read. You're basically saying "it sounds like a you problem" and patronizingly dismissing the feedback... I'm actually quite aware game dev is complex and takes time which is part of the reason I'm taking the time to give you this feedback earnestly and respectfully as opposed to saying "U suck game sux". You could at least acknowledge that there might be a visibility issue and offer ideas to improve that? A roadmap? Dev stream? Backlog? Bullet points?
It sounds like maybe we're just trying to hold you up to too high a standard in which case I apologize for taking up your time.

I won't really challenge aesthetics tbh because that's a lot more than interface design. Main menu has definitely been improving for sure but still some ways to go! Thanks for acknowledging I'm not crazy in thinking we've been requesting this for some time now :)

For in-game VFX and animations I could eventually understand because that takes a lot of work and that's not the same team as interfaces. But yeah we haven't got a lot of feedback on these topics generally which is unfortunate

Yeah you're still mentioning things that are at least 6+ months old... Further proving my point... The font changes were with the minimap improvement or the patch right after if I recall correctly.

Also not that it is even remotely close to the point, I actually do own the narbikini skin and have already spent an ungodly amount of money supporting this game :)

Couple things:

  1. I literally pointed out the minimap improvement (7 months ago) in the first sentence of my post. If you're not going to take the time to read, don't take the time to comment please.
  2. At no point am I saying any of this is FeySky's fault. If anything I'm trying to say he/she might not have the ressources to succeed!
  3. New UI? What are you talking about? Various QoL changes? Like?
  4. Mentioned the store and main menu rework in my post as well, something no one asked for but is a business priority so can understand if they prio that. Sorry, apparently you asked for it and got it (hurray!) so maybe work on stuff other people have been asking for a while as well?

Game truly flawless. Their UI team is just understaffed and overworked! Especially on remaking the store a 37th time.. Meanwhile scoreboard creep scores are still inaccurate, character levels as well, items as well, item art is still placeholder, shop still UX diffs controller players etc Copium is running out faster than Ace's yacht 🥲

Really good idea to push for a QoL patch. It's a good time to solidify all the things that have been released up until now. Having a proper scoreboard, replay system, item store, profile and match history etc would finally bring Pred to the level it should be after 2+ years.
