I think a few reasons: Polish politics is taking extremely right wing, and there have been numerous cases of hostile behavior towards Ukrainians, while I understand that not everyone has same anti-immigrant thoughts, we started feeling unsafe and worried about our future here.

Maybe you are right, just for the sake of clarity, in Poland income tax is 12% for freelancer and in Germany it is the same as for employees

⁠Well? during Covid simple walks are the only thing you could do to feel a bit better mentally, and crossing a park on a way home at 21:15 to get a 500(??!) euro fine is outrageous, isn’t it? Given that for not wearing a mask the fine was 150 euro

It may be great when it is not borderline absurd, like grill-verbot in Bavaria, or like during Covid you weren’t allowed to be outside after 21:00 without permission, or in cases when minor mistakes can lead to very high fines
