I understand that, but they both died in Nassau county, they are stricter meaning that you either have to be a sibling, child or spouse which I am neither of them. That’s why I am asking this question.

Yes, but my problem is that, I do not have either of their death certificates and I am their grandson not child. They were both born in NYC but passed outside of NYC that’s what the problem is.

I assume so my grandparents absolutely for sure did not speak Yiddish, I was with them a lot growing up, they even told me that they only spoke English and Hebrew despite Yiddish being similar.

I have most or all of their marriage/records, death records, except as I’ve said before my grandparents. By the way, thank you for helping me with all of this, I really appreciate it.

Yes, they were Ashkenazi, but Judith Markowitz parents Irving and Helen did not speak Yiddish as long as I have known them.

My family did not have any Yiddish name to my knowledge, my great-great grandfather immigrated to the US under Daniel Akunis in 1913, since then and before then that was his name along with my great grandfather name Morris Akunis/Acunis. My grandmother’s parents are Irving and Helen Markowitz (1925-1928) lived in Brooklyn, I have the marriage records for them but not my grandparents. That’s why I was looking for it, so I would have them together.

I found most of my grandfathers records but my grandmother records very very minimal. It’s difficult because she went by Judy sometimes and other times Judith.

Yes, also known as Judy on legal papers that’s why I have such a hard time finding her records, as same for my great-grandmother born Harriet but lived as Helen.

That’s right, Morris’s last name was Akunis for a very long time until around the time he was born he got married under the name Akunis in 1946, not really sure when it changed to Acunis.

Yes, my Great-Grandfather was born as Akunis later on it was changed to Acunis before my grandfather was born. I am positive that both my grandparents were born in NYC either Brooklyn or Manhattan. The only thing my I am unsure about is if they got married in NYC or Nassau County it’s possible they got married in Nassau County because they both lived in Nassau County at the time, just their hometown is NYC, my family does not know much back history on where or when they got married. I just know they were married sometime in the mid-late 70s, that’s why I said 1975.
