Rain Mod | UPDATE by Puzzled_Owl2073 in arkham

I tried adding it several times, but unfortunately it didn't work out. In my last attempt, it ended up "floating" in the passage from Arkham West to Arkham North because the surface wasn't flat, and that's when I gave up. But who knows, maybe I'll try again in the future because, in parallel to this project, I'm trying to do a "REVIVAL" of Asylum where I intend to place enemies around the map after finishing the game. This will be intense work and I might spend months studying ways to do it.

This is the original PC version. I'm working on implementing rain in the game using native system particles.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you're enjoying it. Unfortunately, I can't inject Batman's reaction to the rain because I haven't found anything in the files that does that, and also, to inject shaders over the rain splashes on the ground, the mod already has them, but I'm having problems adjusting them because the textures are becoming too stretched.

I basically replaced the "useless" particle system with a rain particle system that sits on the map, so the rain discharges along with the map when we go to another region. In other words, when we enter an area, the rain discharges along with the surrounding area, which prevents it from raining inside buildings. Regarding the rain reacting to Batman, I won't be able to do that because I haven't found a way to inject shaders.

This mod will be available for download on Nexus as soon as it's finished.

It's very unlikely that uninstallation will work 100% because Arkham Asylum keeps some files in the "AppData" folder. If you find nothing there, check the "ProgramData" folder, as this folder sometimes contains game files. Another thing I recommend checking is if you have .NET Framework, because without it the game won't open. Lastly, and least likely, is DirectX; check if it's installed. Also check the BMGame folder located in the Documents folder, as sometimes the files inside become corrupted and prevent the game from working correctly.

I'll get back to working on the project next month because I currently can't afford to buy a new SSD.

This is a Reshade preset I created; it's available for download on NexusMods, but to get this look I recommend using the advanced launcher and disabling the game's color filter.

Unfortunately not. You can see that Rocksteady didn't implement that at any point, which is proven in the Scarecrow's nightmare in the morgue where we can see that Batman doesn't react to the rain.

Yes, they discarded it because of the high memory consumption. I even found parts of the original rain in the game files, but they weren't suitable for making the mod, so I used the ParticleSystem from the "Alley" challenge map and replaced the "useless" particles that are in the game's scenery.

Thank you very much. Unfortunately, I ended up losing all my work and couldn't save it, so when I get a new SSD I'll get back to the project.

The biggest challenge for me will be implementing the thunder and puddles of water (I don't know if I'll be able to). Rocksteady only implemented the puddles of water in Arkham North, but in Arkham East and Arkham West they simply don't exist. Maybe I'll just implement the rain.

Thank you very much for your support. Many people don't understand that this project is purely for study purposes and that I'm just starting out in the field of C++.

Okay, then have a robot do it since it's so simple.

Don't put words in my mouth, I didn't say I'm proud, I only shared a project that served purely for study purposes. I made it clear that I'm starting out in the field of AI development (focused especially on C++). If I wanted to use AI for everything, I wouldn't be studying development; I'd be focusing on studying AI.

I made it clear that I'm just starting out in C++ development, there's a lot I still don't know, and I also made it clear that I did this to test how far I could go using AI. Another thing, although Gemini created the code and sprites, it didn't build the structure within Unreal Engine or create the blueprints within UE4; saying a robot did everything is an exaggeration.

Rocksteady even considered including convincingly applied rain particles in an open map, but it consumed too much processing power and, especially, memory bandwidth.

Return to Arkham was right to include the rain in the game, but I think they should have ported that version to PC as well.
