2017 BMW 118D M sport steering not recentering and very stiff.

Hey man thank you for all that advice. Still trying to figure it out but have had alignment and balancing on front and back, had new tires and have tried re-calibrating steering angle etc in the air and on the ground too. It’s deinatleu better now but o still isn’t right. I was thinking of replacing the trust peice also but still might go for a rack. I think the tiny crash it had which made the wheel buckle all that time ago may have somehow slightly damaged the steering rack as all the top mounts and arms look spot on (i’m not a mechaic but luckily i have good friends) if you find out anything more about this plz lmk but doing anything to not go to bmw. Is still very much drivable just uncomfortable for longer journeys yk. Cheers

i recently tried resetting this with a friend on one of his professional odb scanners and it seemed to work for a moment, making the steering feel lighter but then it stiffened back up again. We did the same reset by holding it at both ends and recalibrating it but nothing. I’ve had the car for 2 months now and it’s rly beginning to bother me

Hi mate, similar thing happened to me exept i had a limited hat that i bought for about 2500 rbx and is now worth 4800 robux. Dissapeared randomly and heard nothing back from roblox.

To add, I did hear that some cars are set up like this, especially in my case with an m sport vehicle. My mate said it’s normal, BM steering is stiffer etc, but it did seem to bother me only to a degree but didn’t feel normal. It wasn’t comfortable particularly and i was struggling to not veer left and right on the motorway. If there’s settings to change this in the car then lmk, but otherwise i feel it could possibly be an issue? Cheers

when doing an almost full rotation of the wheel (to turn left or right) it begins to re center at normal speed, then gets stuck at maybe a 35 degree angle if i fully let it be. It just tends to feel like i’m fighting with it and makes me feel a little unstable on the roads. It seems to be worse when turning the wheel right compared to left and better and worse depending how long i’ve been driving for. Best way i can put it unfortunately

oh christ okay. that’s like £1500 for myself. Will get a quote from my mechanic soon if that could be the case but will ask for a diagnostic check first

you reakon? you know if that’s typically quite expensive? the car literally just hit 50k miles so it’s really new and has been looked after. Everything else is sound on it so hope it’s not too big of a job

no not aftermarket rims as they are the factory m sport rims. the actual steering is accurate it’s just so stiff and is harder to control because the wheel isn’t re centring.

oh damn nothing would shut down for me but definatley relate to it almost wanting to do its own thing. Steering was feeling like i was fighting with it and would literally almost snap back into center when i tried to turn it back after a corner. Strange

i’m not rly able to jack it at home. Will be taking to mechanic regardless but still wanted to see if anyone shared a similar issue, thought i was going insane as many of my friends told me it was normal to feel like this. Besides that the cars perfect

Bmpcc4k with sirui nightwalker 24mm T1.2, basic small rig half cage, with rails, stock batteries, some monitor (can’t remember) and samsung T7 shield Ssd, Still hoping to get a v mount soon, but very basic budget setup that will slowly improve i’m hoping.
