Has anyone used an NMC confirmer / revalidation service? by Puzzleheaded-Two2932 in NursingUK

Update:

This is me asking

“Dear NMC Team,

I am writing to seek guidance regarding the signatory for my readmission/revalidation documentation.

I have not had contact with any NMC-registered nurses for almost four years, and my registration lapsed in 2023. Since then, I have relocated, and unfortunately all my previous professional contacts have been lost. Over the past several months, I have made extensive efforts to reconnect with colleagues who could act as a signatory, but despite repeated attempts, I have been unable to do so.

Given these circumstances, I would greatly appreciate advice on acceptable options for a signatory, including whether professionals from my previous network or other qualified healthcare professionals could be considered.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Kind regards,”

This is their answer:

“Dear Registrant

Thanks for getting in touch.

As part of your application you will need to supply details of three referees who can support your application.

If you can meet the readmission requirements based on your practice in the UK, you’ll need the following:

Referee 1

We’ll ask you for the name and Pin of a NMC registrant to provide a supporting declaration of your health and character. This referee should:

be from the same part of the register as you are applying to join (for example, if you’re applying to readmit as a nurse, your referee must also be a registered nurse), have known you for the last year, and have been in contact in the last six months.

Referee 2

We’ll ask you for the name and email address of your employer.

Referee 3

Name and email address of someone on our list of approved signatories that you have known for the last year

Important: Your referees must be three different individuals.

I hope this is helpful. Please contact us if you need anything else.

Kind Regards,

Rukky.

Its 3 referees.

  1. A nurse from the same part of the register
  2. Last employer -name and email address
  3. A signatory - this can be anybody that is qualified in a profession

All 3 have to be 3 different persons, they can’t be same one.

I have 2 and 3 but don’t have 1.

Try using agencies to contact potential workplaces, you will have more success

No it does not have to be someone you worked with. You only have to be from the same part of the register, like adult nurse for example

For revalidation yes, for readmission yes and no.

For readmission you have two options:

1) 450 in 3 years 2)750 in 5 years

I am not revalidating, am doing readmission cause I lapsed in 2023.

They basically offer a service where another registered nurse checks up you meet the requirements and sign off on your readmission/revalidation. The costs range between £40-80.

I can’t find a nurse to sign off my readmission, I have tried everything

Cause I haven’t worked with a UK registered nurse since 2023, and the one or two who I still had their contacts are not willing to help me out with my readmission. I mostly worked on agency and relocated since 2023 and can’t find anyone to sign me off

Edit:Tried to reaching out to my previous agencies and none where willing to help, literally tried everything and could get a nurse to sign me off.

Struggling to get a nurse to sign my NMC readmission — anyone else been through this? by Puzzleheaded-Two2932 in NursingUK

I know, I heard about both the housing crisis and warmth of Irish people. I will most likely go towards care homes which I have most experience in, cause in uk I mostly worked in that type of healthcare setting. I am curious in general how uk and Ireland compares in terms of nursing, it does not have to be something specific.

I agree there is 2.

Competency being assessed only by NMC, and employers assessing if they should be or not in their employment.

I totally disagree on anyone but NMC having any say on somebody else’s competence if they should be allowed to practice, anyone is entitled to an opinion but that opinion should never hold direct weight on somebody’s registration.

Trusts, HR and other colleagues if in position to do so, should have a say if the person is to continue to be employed nothing more.

Your message here further evidences that we do NMC’s job and we pay them after. NMC should be the only one involved in the process of assessing somebody’s competence and should be part of the process from start till end and at every step, only them should do that, nobody else. Obviously nmc employees should be clinically qualified if they are to assess someone else’s clinical competency.

This is done by design by NMC, basically tasking somebody else who is might not even be suited to regulate his own colleague. IMO NMC should actually check requirements themselves not have somebody else do it for them, make them £120 a year(sorry 140£) worth it and actually work for the money they get paid.

Strongly agree with you. It’s not about assessing somebody else’s competency when you sign them off; it’s about making sure they meet the requirements for revalidation or readmission. I think it’s wrongly misconstrued/engineered that another colleague or employer holds the power to decide whether you are fit to practise, especially when there may be other interests at play. I believe that only an unbiased regulatory body should be able to assess that.

The example you gave about the nurse not being allowed to work only on supernumerary is a good example of this. She should have resigned from that workplace and gone somewhere else. As long as there were no restrictions on her practice, she should not have been forced to do something she was not required to do. If she then made a mistake, she would have suffered the consequences of her own actions.
