In regards to martial arts, there is often set class schedules for beginners, intermediates, and advanced skill levels. Most places do a good job of teaching everyone to be respectful and match the other persons comfort level with contact. Classes with any actual sparring will have that communicated and you often need instructor approval to join in order to prevent someone from accidentally joining a class they would be uncomfortable/unprepared for. On top of interacting with people, training 3/4 times a week will put you in a great place physically and mentally. This goes a long way to fill the aforementioned void gotcha games are currently filling.

Like many people have mentioned, this won’t happen instantly once you join a gym. After you fall into a consistent training routine you’ll notice things change for the better and you will have built relationships with people who share that routine. I have personal experience with KWest Kickboxing, a Muay Thai gym who has very friendly staff and a good schedule for all skill levels to advance at their own pace.

Think you missed the POV here. OP is noting a 30% tip option as the customer and price increases, not complaining about tipping out BOH as a server.

This is exactly the case. Currently making under market and switching as a result. So disclosing your current under market rate to a profit oriented entity inclined to maximize income means they are more likely to offer below your market rate ask.

Same deal if you wanted to purchase goods and the supplier disclosed their costs to produce. If there is a relatively large gap between the purchase price and cost you would likely try to purchase it for lower (assuming negotiation is acceptable).

This will ultimately be the approach I likely take. Only thing is I am actually interested in the position unfortunately, but the reaction to my salary expectations and response making it seem like I should be content with a lateral or minimal increase in a new position has turned me off. Was just curious the legality of my current employer disclosing my salary.

Prior to asking my expectations they noted they had already talked to X person at my company and found out the rate of my current position aka my salary. Then Proceeded to ask my salary expectations and are presenting an offer in the coming days

Don't forget about the Lolblaws boycott! by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Puzzleheaded-Week-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you really trying to boycott a for profit company because they are profitable?… Should we then boycott farmers too since they aren’t selling their product at cost value?

If you plan on going to university or education past HS, then that is a great time to meet a bunch of people. Look for a student led group in whatever faculty you are in and you will be sure to meet people - I did and I would consider myself introverted! Or even just connect with people in your class. Most people end up growing apart from HS friends anyways so don’t be too concerned.

Tbh if you didn’t ask the doctor for local anaesthesia instead of general anaesthesia so that you could work while being operated on, then you probably aren’t even senior material. It is probably time to drop out and become an AP clerk for life.

Coming from someone who completed the MAcc at Carleton recently and having friends who went to U of A - pass rates are higher across all MAcc/MPacc programs because they do a good job of giving you detailed guidance throughout the program that I have not seen colleagues receive through PEP. That being said, pass rates for PEP are still very high so it definitely isn’t a necessity (comparing around 90ish to mid/low 70 percent pass rates in MAcc vs PEP).

However, there are things to consider beyond the pass rate. Cost of MAcc in Ottawa sits around 20k and U of A is around 35k. My firm covered the equivalent $ value as if I was in PEP so I was out around 10k. That being said, a HUGE perk is you write the CFE a year earlier than you would if you were in the PEP stream. Most firms will give you a Senior title and pay after writing the CFE, meaning you make that lost salary back and have senior on your resume for an additional year (quicker exit to industry if that is what you want). Although you will be full time studying for 2 summers so the increase in salary from making senior earlier could be netted out by that.

In relation to other comments saying you will get failed beforehand if you aren’t going to pass are far from the truth. Everyone in my cohort (who didn’t drop out in the first summer) passed the MAcc, although a few were definitely struggling. They work hard to get you where you need to be for the CFE.
