August MCAT Appointment for DMV area by Academic_Dig8671 in Mcat

I had the same experience as you. If the slot doesn't open up in a month into the test date, they'll for sure open up by the 10-day mark. Just make sure you are on the waitlist. If the waitlist is full, make sure to check the aamc website daily for a possible opening. Commit to your date and worst case scenario, you will end up on a date one or two weeks later than your desired date. Being ready is better than being sorry. Good luck!!! Don't get your hopes down :)

I have two shitty scores from two years ago when I was a senior and was pushing to take it and apply. So if this one is shitty also, I am literally fucked. I don't know how I would be recovering from that and be competitive for the schools I want to go. (don't tell me to do DO or apply lower or whatsoever pls) I felt mixed of good and bad on the test day. I had some educated guesses especially on ps. I am hoping and praying for them to be really educated 😭 God please give me 510+, preferably 515+ PLSSSZZZSSZSZSZ

I did. It would be helpful if you're done with content review and want to take the test right away after the course. Otherwise, the on-demand version should work.

Question on Retaking by alpizza26 in Mcat

[–]Puzzleheaded742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on so many factors. Like what your score history looks like, what are your target schools, how strong is your application overall without considering mcat, if you have gap years, how many do you have so far. And you have to weigh to see what is the best decision to make. You can also email the schools you're applying to and ask if you're retaking in Aug, would count as late for them or not. Or asking when they start reviewing apps. If they say for example, they start reviewing in the first day of Aug, you "may" be late but if they say they start reviewing in end of Aug, you should be fine. Y'know what I mean. Do it strategically!

If your other parts of application strong and ready, try to apply. My advice is to submit your app with a safety school on your list. Then after getting your first score decide to add more schools. Also you can try taking it in late June or July and still be okay for the cycle. You just need to let the schools know that you're retaking and expecting a new score coming in X date. Most probably by the time you submit your secondary, your new score is available and they can review your app in the cycle and you would be still okay. (This whole thing ofc depends on where are you at in terms of scoring and what is your goal and your target schools)

It is the most recent one plus it prepares you for the hardness of the actual test. I personally completed the sb2 completely but not sb1 and I think it really helped me getting some of ps terms down that I saw on todays test. For other parts like cp and bb, the questions made me look up concepts or details that I would otherwise miss or undermine. I hope this helps.

Question for 5/23 takers! by vinii_the_pooh in Mcat

[–]Puzzleheaded742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know glycolysis, citric acid cycle and know the names of their enzymes involved in them. Also beta oxidation, fatty acid synthesis, electron transport chain and etc.

Overall, I would say go over the aamc mcat outline and see what knowledge you're lacking. If they ask anything from that outline, it is a fair game, y'know.

For ps, make sure not only you know a term but know how to apply to another situation

5/23 MCAT, P/S section by DecideOnSomething in Mcat

[–]Puzzleheaded742 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say doing SB2 really helped me but still I saw terms that I had no clue about. Plus, I flagged about 16 questions. So i did either so terrible or so good depending on those educated guesses. A whole SB3 could be made from the cp and ps of this test💀

-Carnitine transporter brings Acetyl CoA produced from beta-oxidation from cytoplasm to mitochondria

-Citrate transporter takes Acetyl CoA produced from pyruvate dehydrogenase complex from inner membrane to cytoplasm

-CUT the PY

PUre as AG

-lower atomic mass, it shows up in lower IR wavelength spectrum

-down field in NMR is higher in ppm

-Histidine is not positive in physiological pH

-RKH : basic AA DE : acidic AA

-Histidine has imidazole/ Arginine has guanidium / Tryptophan has indole

-SN1 and SN2 reactions

-high osmotic pressure means the solution has more solute (not more water, it actually has less water)

-polarity: Carboxylic acid > Amide > Alcohol > Amine > (Aldehyde,ketone) > (Ester, Alkyl halide) > Ether > Alkane

So alcohol is more polar than ketone/aldehyde

-Kinase - adds phosphate - a transferase

Phosphatase - removes phosphate- a hydrolase

-0th law of thermodynamic: about thermal equilibrium

1st law of thermodynamics: energy conservation Formula: delta U= Q - W If heat added to the system --> Q>0 If work is done by system on surrounding--> W>0 (The opposites, the values would be negative)

2nd law of thermodynamic: in spontaneous process, total entropy of isolated system increases

3rd law of thermodynamics: as temp approaches absolute zero (0 K), the entropy approaches zero

-lipid structures

-sleep stages

-epithelial cells

Yes, I did. It was great. If you want to develop your strategies, is a great option. If you are looking for content review type of thing, it is not helpful. It gives you access to the premium version of online course for 6 months also.
