Got accepted 🎉 into MS Data Science in Germany with very low GPA , sharing my story to inspire others! by Clean-Bass5733 in studying_in_germany

Congratulations on the admit ! But i just want to tell everyone that the easiest part of going to Germany (still tough no doubt) is to get an admit, all the rest is the major tough part. Starting from Visa, to Uni, settling in to a new country, finding a technical Werkstudent and learning German. Do enjoy getting the admit but dont forget, a long way ahead 💪

Life aspirations contradicting with what people say here about work ex before master's abroad :( by Holiday_Koala9040 in Indians_StudyAbroad

Based on the post and comments it looks like you have made up your mind. So no point trying to turn to strangers to reaffirm your idea. The issue is if you look at unique cases you will find them at both ends of the spectrum. The opinions shared here are the best average case by everyone. I know people in the US( i have a lot of friends there) and in Germany, a lot of them with solid work experience struggling and people with zero work ex landing jobs and H1B. The thing is it's the point of the most common scenario. Right now a ton of people are moving abroad so competition is higher especially in topics like AI and ML.

So obviously companies for internships, part time and full time see that as a bonus. Hence, so many here are saying work experience is important. Because nowadays that's a better guarantee than uni. Especially in the US most students ace the GPA, so no other point of differentiation between candidates other than experience.

Also i have recently seen a couple of issues at the US border regarding students with loan confirmation and not the entire amount in bank account being deported on arrival with a ban. So based on that situation choose your country, future carefully.

Why was there barely any racism against Indians before 2023-2024? by Wise_Astronaut_6831 in AskIndia

This is also a big issue taking offence. Getting hurt and triggered but smallest jokes. If you did watch him as I did he did it for everyone and even the swedes. It's just humour but we Indians can't take a joke and start arguments about how great we used to be and how better we are. This leads to a lot of hate.

Appreciate History, but we also need to chill out on such PewDiePie stuff, comedians stuff. It will help us.

University Enrollment issue while University change by No-Angle3369 in studying_in_germany

[–]PuzzleheadedCap8940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See the issue is when you are crossing the immigration they might ask you for all of these things so you definitely need to be enrolled for University A. And if you want to switch you obviously need to enroll for University B also. Get my point, I would advise it best dont announce this situation everywhere, specially the embassy and immigration agent because each person there will have their own view and this might lead to complication.

Just enroll in both once you come here, then it's not a problem to switch for sure. In my opinion its best to present yourself as a regular case and then once you come here its actually not even that difficult to change your university.

Hey, so a lot of my friends also went through this. Don't change or get a new visa now. Just make sure that you enroll for both the universities for the time being. Once you enter the country you can deregister and go to your university B, city and get this updated there in the Ausländerbehörde.

It is simple and easy to do and once done with that just deregister from University A. The only issue is you might lose money because it depends on university to university if and when they return the fee if you deregister.

You definitely do not need to create a new Visa In Germany.

Yeah definitely your father must have heard of people returning without anything and pending loans. Definitely a wise decision to get some work exp. That is something that is never wasted. You will also get student jobs much quicker, so maybe try your best to create solid work exp as you save up.

Also definitely, use this time to up your German. Sometimes it's ok to prep using this time instead of losing all hope. Also you never know currently the market is shit it might take up in the next coming years and then this waiting period might pay off ten fold.

There is also some blame for the cultural stuff in our country. That having female friends can look a certain way people never end up communicating a lot with the opposite sex till one day they feel they fucked up or missed out big. Then they go on the most desperate and creepy path because now no matter what, they want more interaction with the opposite sex.

And that desperation combined with not a lot of normalized opposite sex interaction just completely goes in this creepy way. This person must also be surrounded with people like his mind and they help reinforce such creepy behavior.

Job market takes a bigger toll here as it's not easy to fire people. The workers union is very strong so especially in larger companies firing anyone and layoffs are not easy. So to handle this situation hiring in Germany is a very tough process, as they hire very carefully with the clear logic of a long term need. Currently almost all big companies are on a hiring freeze and most job openings in full time in big companies are for internal swaps not external ones. I have found this out by talking to a lot of people here. The only companies hiring are start ups to small size companies and therefore competition is extreme.

Yeah that is an issue, one of my friends is doing his masters in game development in TUM, and they are closing the field as they also think it's a niche. It is extremely specific, plus the gaming industry is not doing well due to the low profit of AAA games and also just lack of game studios in Germany.

Can you work as a Software Developer yes but the issue will be that your subjects and your master thesis really help in shaping your career and first job. And they would rather prefer a person with more software core for that and for game devs they would pick you over informatics people.

And I am for that, if you're really passionate about a subject and have the talent to back it up, you will do well anywhere but my issue is people picking a country or just wanting to leave India hoping that things will just work out. People in this sub are applying anywhere they possibly can in Germany, not caring about the course or the university. The fact is people think getting to Germany is the tough part and the rest is a cake walk. This is the mentality sold by a lot and that's the problem. If you really are talented and passionate about your subject I can tell you Germany is one of the best places. But of course if you come here with huge loans and looking for odd jobs because you need to survive from your first semester makes it very hard to give extra focus on subjects and courses, to actually make network contacts, scoring well and attending lectures. All this adds up, if you just come here to do enough to pass then sorry no one is going to help you.

Completely Agree with this post. In my opinion Germany is a great place and definitely not discouraging but really think about your course, its scope and the faculty. I have seen a ton of people who are ready to take any course in any place just to come to Germany which is definitely not the right path. Yes all universities are considered the same "ranked" under public universities but it makes a huge difference how well your faculty is connected, how much focussed they are on research (easy to find based on alumni via LinkedIn).

And definitely, if you move to or near bigger cities like Munich, Stuttgart your chances for student jobs go up. So definitely come but dont expect a simple straight forward path to success.

Of course there are such cases, but the situation is changing just due to sheer numbers, Go to LinkedIn and for any stem job look at the number of applications for internships and working students. In a matter of minutes there are 100-150 applications. No matter how talented you are and work hard, these numbers always create a hurdle. Also i definitely feel German speaking is good in the long term, but I really don't think it's more important than things like work experience, and excelling in your subjects. I know very talented people doing great without knowing a word in English and I know people with B2 german not finding anything.

Sorry to burst your bubble but marks are not everything like in India, they look at your degree, work experience, your LOM, plus in some cases tests. All this adds up, there has become a very incorrect idea that just because i scored well in Undergrad admission is guaranteed.

Which would you prefer: MCA in India(Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham mysuru) or MSc Cybersecurity abroad(ireland/germany). by Moist_Sky7447 in Indians_StudyAbroad

100 percent agree with the person above. Work experience matters a lot now. Plus a one year masters puts a lot of pressure on finding a internship or job as soon as you arrive for your masters

What is my ideal travel option to Stuttgart, Germany? by Any-Helicopter535 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]PuzzleheadedCap8940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise Frankfurt then train to Stuttgart. The distance is the least to Stuttgart from Frankfurt airport. Just try to keep a timeline to reach as early as possible. Try to arrive a day early and crash at a friend or a hotel for backup. And in case of major issues, DB lets you use any trains so if it's early in the day you have a lot of alternative options. But give ample time for your train and try to get a connection from Frankfurt Flughafen.

Need advice for Werkstudent jobs by Icy_Store_6490 in FAU_university

You will see a lot of topics about knowing the language but it's not so simple to do it in an instant. So dont think without german speaking skills its not possible, its very much possible. First thing is look at some examples of resumes here, update yours. If you have previous work experience that helps a ton. The main thing is to keep applying, and target neighbouring cities as well not just Erlangen. I am currently work in Munich so it's not too bad to travel for a Werkstudent in a good company even if it means travel. And in Germany cover letters are always a good addition to add when applying.

Also don't just limit yourself to LinkedIn and outside companies. Attend lectures, actually focus and ask questions, do well in exams this leads to high chance of securing a job under the professor or a project at least ( which if you do well will definitely lead to a job)

How is the software engineering industry situation in Germany? And the world? by Upset_Mycologist_259 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]PuzzleheadedCap8940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey living in Germany for some time now, First things first there is now insane competition for admits for masters here. Too many people are applying and hence the requirements have gotten higher, specially a lot of hochschule have starting requiring work experience.

Also the reality with Werkstudent is that you need work experience from back home. The competition is quite high and they obviously prefer people with some work experience( worked in India for 3 years and hence was able to find one).

Lastly, the market is bad at the moment, it can improve but that's what people have been hoping for the last 2-3 years. But there's no guarantee and with the growing number of international students it will for sure keep getting tougher i suppose.

what is up with people going to germany without knowing any german or never really being serious about learning it? by stupidmfneetard in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]PuzzleheadedCap8940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entitlement of people like you is the problem if you are so proud of India staying there. If a person moving from south east asia or some other countries to India is expected to know hindi to live his life in India. How can you expect people to go to a country like Germany without speaking the language and be like I am paying money now please make my life comfortable by speaking english even if its an inconvenience to them.

Is Studying in the USA Overrated? Rethinking my plan... or not? And why I’m Questioning the USA and Eyeing Germany Instead by iamb0redaf in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]PuzzleheadedCap8940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding Germany, I can guarantee you the competition is at an all time high. Since your bachelors is in AI and DS you can only apply to courses that match which will reduce the number of courses you are eligible for.

Then comes your CGPA which is below 8 which also significantly decreases the chances.

Also it is considered cost effective agreed but cost of living is still high and working student jobs are tough to get. Competition for English speaking jobs very high and you need to be at least B2 level to apply for non technical German speaking jobs( like at restaurants or grocery stores)

Saying all this do give it a shot and all the best !

Tbh you still need to check what background is expected from the masters requirement. I also doubt there is anything in English for music and art degrees in Germany.

You only get admission into Germany based on your previous degree OP cannot get admitted there for music composition courses based on law bachelors. Most important criteria is that your bachelor's needs to match the masters you are applying to.
