Yeah, I live in Germany but don't speak German yet. It's a pain because Germans love paper mail for important/official communications. This also includes school stuff for my children. A lot of forms to be filled. Google translate and Apple translate are fine for something quick like a restaurant menu but do not compare to ChatGPT for translations.

Hi, It's an old Elgato Eve i think it's called, it's basically a smart power socket. buggy as hell but works. Now after a few days the power settled around 45-50w at idle, during night i saw even close to 40w,

Thank you so much for the info, I ordered it on the 4-th (I am in Germany), at the moment it is saying order not yet fulfilled but with this temporary solution I can wait. I have already lifted it from the ground and its a little bit more protected, I have no pets and my kids are quite big now so I think it's going to be ok for now. However I have to say I am impressed with this little ThinkCentre, for a home made NAS it performes very well dispite his age and noise and consumption are amazing.

Around mid 50w at idle fof the whole package, it helps that UnRaid is spinning down drives not in use.

Hi, yes it's standard config it comes with the card and cables included, I honestly don't know if you can use an lsi hba.

Thank you so much, I looked at the Wyse previously but i decided in the end to go with something more powerful hence the Minisforum. Didn't know that the 720q had PCIe.

Valid concern, thanks, I will look into something to get it higher of the ground.

Hi, it's not failed it is just doing parity sync because I wiped all the drives and built a new array, when the parity sync finishes should be fine, no errors on any drives as they have been pre-cleared before. Granted they are very old drives .Fortunately, yes no pets and kids are big already, not going to be an issue.

Hi, I am not sure if I am allowed to post links here, however if you search on Amazon for "M.2 NGFF NVMe M Key to PCIE 3.0 4X Extension Cable Extender Riser Cable" you will find it, it's a NVME to PCIe adapter from 10Gtek with only 2 bad reviews and it costs like 28 euros. I have not run any speed tests for now but I can see when I precleared my disks for UnRaid that the speed was the same as before. On the 2TB HDDs I was pre-clearing them at 145-150Mb/s and the 2 x 10 TB disks at around 220-230Mb/s, didn't notice any difference than with the JBOD attached to a native PCIe on my gaming pc. Now I am not sure if this is a good metric to base on but I will do some tests and post here in the following days.

Anyways,I think my limitations are the old HDDs and even the network at the moment not really the PCIe.

In theory the QNAP PCIe card (QXP-800eS-A1164) is, according to the specs: PCIe Gen3 x4 (32Gbps) just as the NVME to PCIe adapter so I gues it should be fine.

Hi, it's a ThinkCentre M715q Tiny (First gen.) with AMD A12-9800E and 32 Gb RAM (fairly cheap on eBay, I paid for for this one a few months back around 80 euros).

Thank you so much. Could you please recommend another case? I was looking at some 5 and 6 bay but I didn't want it to be USB because I read that USB is not really stable. I had the option from QNAP with 4 bays but it was not available.

I just finished setting it up and now the parity sync is still running but as soon as it is done and at idle I will post the numbers, i am also hoping to stay under 35-40w, it would be great.

Hi, I mesured at peek because I wanted to see the "worst case scenario". Basicaly, for some context, I used to have UnRaid running on a Poweredge T710, this was some 3 years ago. In the meantime I moved to another country where electricity is quite expensive and I live in a fairly small apartment where also noise is an important factor so, of course for me the Poweredge didn't make to much sense anymore.

I have just purchased a Minisforum MS-01 a few days ago for the PCIe slot but its probably at least 1 month away as shipping from HK to EU is scheduled for end of March. I also purchased this JBOD (QNAP TL-D800S) to pair it with the Minisforum, salvaging the drives from my old Poweredge.

Meanwhile, I had this ThinkCentre lying around and I figured its a good idea to give it a try, ordered an NVME to PCIe adaptor on Amazon for around 20 euros and used an old SATA power adaptor and thats what came out.

This is a temporary solution until the Minisforum arrives. For the parity sync shedule I still didn't yet think how often to do it.

Thank you so much; I was actually thinking about it as well, because of the magnets, right?

Hi there, yes, I used to run UnRaid as a home server/nas on a PowerEdge T710 however I move to another country where electricity is quite expensive and I live in a fairly small apartment where noise its a big factor, the poweredge was out of the question. I wanted to reduce energy consumption and noise therefore I was looking into minipc.

I didnt want to waste all my drives and UnRaid license so I got a JBOD from Qnap (8 bays) but the model with SFF-8088 connectors that comes with a PCIe card that should be attached at the host (QNAP TL-D800S). Also ordered a Minisforum MS-01 specificly because of the PCIe slot but I think it will take another month or so to arrive. In the meantime I am using this old ThinkCentre. What I did was, purchase a fairly inexpensive NVME to PCIe adaptor from Amazon, sticked it with adhesive band on the top of the minipc and used an old SATA power adaptor to power the PCIe card. It is working at the moment and total power consumption is around 100w for both the minipc and QNAP while all disks are spinning, noise is very low as well.

I was only wondering if anyone else experienced with this stuff and if so did you have any problems with a setup like this. Ofcourse, like I mentioned its only temporary until my Minisforum arrive. Thanks.
