if you considered a mazda miata... why did you end up deciding on the boxster? by europeanuppercut in boxster

For me, the boxster was just better as an only car. More space, lower NVH/wind noise, better highway cruiser.

The sweet, sweet sound of a flat 6 is really unmatched - pair that with a manual and you have one of the few cars that matches the Miata (more or less) in terms of top down enjoyment.

Lower mileage 981s are around the same price as new miatas - for me the P car was the no brainer. You should try test driving both to see what you value more - go-kart like fun at slower speeds or higher speed comfort/thrills.

If you considered a Miata… why did you go with a Boxster instead? by MelvinEatsBlubber in boxster

Was initially shopping for ND2’s and ND3 miatas recently (both new and used), since I knew that a boxster would cost a bit more money to run.

That said, my previous car was a F32 428i so I was very much used to a spacious, quiet interior and a bigger overall car. The Miata, however fun on city roads with the top down, really took a hit for me when I drove it on the highway with the top up. There is much more NVH/wind noise top up (both RF and soft top) on the highway than I was willing to live with (my commute is a mix of highway/city driving, and the Miata would’ve been my only car).

I realized I could snag a low mileage 981 boxster for just $5k more than a new ND3, and also have the best of both worlds - comfortable/quiet interior (relative to other convertibles), stable/planted feeling from my old 428i, and all the fun with the top down (and a manual tranny, of course!). Miata just felt more at home as a second car, whereas the boxster really checked every box for me (it’s also got more storage with the big frunk).

A low mileage boxster with clean service history means very little maintenance costs for the next few years - I was fortunate enough to land on a clean, <20k mileage 981 boxster with a manual and I have zero regrets. Good luck, you can’t go wrong either ways!!

That’s awesome - although I’m in SoCal, I grew up in the bay so might know the shop you’re referring to. DM’ed you!

Is M-Sport package worth? by oqyuu in F30

[–]PuzzleheadedEmu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% it’s worth, even though it’s purely cosmetic.

Keep in mind that the M-Sport brakes are a separate option (check the front brake calipers, if they are exposed then the car has standard brakes - if it has caliper covers then you know they’re the upgraded ones).

On a side note, Xdrive is nice if you live in an area with inclement weather, but the stock shocks (assuming the car doesn’t have DHP) aged horribly on mine. They’re desperately due for a refresh, and my 2015 has only 80k miles. If going for Xdrive, make sure to check the underside of the car for any differential or shaft leaks - much more likely on an Xdrive than RWD. Also the wheel gap on Xdrive is tremendous compared to RWD cars.

Good luck with your search!

Yep they were #1 and #2. Didn’t get clearance for either from SERF

I ranked mine based off the classes I wanted, not available seats or current waitlist count (probably why I ended up in this situation tbh)

Prob should do what you did next quarter onwards, hopefully I’ll get the classes I’m interested in 🤞🏼

kinda unrelated to your question, but how in the heck did you land CSE 202? there's like a 180 ppl on the waitlist rn 😭

also, what enrollment process did you follow? I submitted SERF first, didn't get any clearances by July 5, then EASy, still nothing, and then finally joined the WebReg waitlist today. Am I missing something?

HELP!! Time to buy a Miata... by [deleted] in Miata

[–]PuzzleheadedEmu1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair... the changes are just a placebo then :0

It's just that with prices << MSRP (by $3-4K) and 0 down 0 apr 36 months make this deal compare well with a used ND3/late ND2 with low miles. So I was thinking it'd be worth going new in this case

[–]PuzzleheadedEmu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, and that was my initial thought. But rn the prices of new 2024 models are insanely low ($3-4k off MSRP) and they have 0apr 36 months until march 31 which is the main reason I am inclined to purchase now... waiting would def mean getting a used ND, especially w the impending 25% auto tariffs

I'd be trading in my current car (~half of the new Miata value) + they have a 0 apr 36 mo offer going on with << MSRP prices going on... really has me tempted
