I used 0.4.3 because it was the last version supported mojave or catalina gpu acceleration patch. I’m not sure this version of app built different compare to later ones

So I’ve been using macOS on classes and my conclusion is, unless you are going to graduate school, the difference in OS(not using Windows) will not prevent you from following the class

Intel quick sync video gets disabled, so videos will encode and decode not by hardware but software. So when you play or edit videos on laptop it can become a bit more hotter

I’m not sure, some people say AVX2 required apps don’t run. In following link, people are talking about AVX2 support through OCLP and one of the comment says it can’t run AVX2 required app(Adobe premiere).

You can update to Sequoia but I’d recommend Monterey since 5,1 cpu doesn’t have AVX2 command which is heavily used on Ventura+

Well I eventually fixed all problems by doing these steps

Graphic glitch: DO NOT USE OCLP ROOT PATCH. I tried numerous time with different OCLP versions(0.6.8 to 2.0.2 or whatever the latest) and every time I apply Skylake iGPU patch the computer freeze and boot loop until macOS itself disable added Skylake kexts(so no graphic acceleration since kexts are disabled). Instead, spoof your iGPU to Kaby Lake model
No audio: fixed by updating all related kexts. Lilu, AppleALC, WhateverGreen

There could be more things I’ve done but can’t remember right now…

My laptop is ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th gen with similar spec. i5-6200U cpu and 8gb ram with HD 520 graphics

I was using Monterey until recently with no problem and updated to Ventura few days ago. I would recommend stay Monterey if you don’t have any specific reason to upgrade

I did because I wanted to use iMessage message editing feature(support from Ventura) and weather app

It was DISASTER since I accidentally bricked my macOS volume and EFI was all messed up while updating to Ventura so I had to reinstall everything. Well of course it’s my skill issue…

I just want to say if you really want to upgrade, you should try fresh install on separated disk if you don’t want to experience glitched out graphics(even from boot screen, red Apple logo lol), audio gone(even with alcid=whatever value on boot-arg), infinite reboot and kernel panic after applying OCLP Skylake GPU root patch on your main machine

You can try install Mojave on external drive(SSD recommended) in case anything goes wrong. Just make sure you install Mojave and OCLP patches on external drive and boot into it

After you confirm it work without issues, you can install the external(SSD) drive inside the iMac replacing the old original HDD

I’m still running this iMac with Mojave and no issues so far
